For Adblock Plus add a subscription filter called "Malware Protection" even majority of viruses were Windows any case you may stumble at least a backup protection is there.

Well for on demand scanners: Avast for Linux is fine and most of the signatures does included were Windows viruses detection.

Not really sure about firewalls for Linux, because it's a well known OS that there will be heaps of threats that can be exploited, but I found this link.

I use Shorewall as a frontend for the firewall in PCLinuxOS.

Switced PCLinuxOS with CentOS 6.2. Funny how it's supposed to be for servers but it still works fine for desktop use. :)

Edit: Using Xubuntu now, enjoying a better battery life. :D
Edit2: After some days of distro hopping, I have finally settled for Crunchbang.
