Do not take into account any AI based detection method. Assume the worst AV for script detection. IT Security awareness and posture is of original ILOVEYOU time frame; ergo attachments were trusted and knowledge of how worm propagates through the system is non existent.

Theoretically, the ILOVEYOU worm could potentially infect millions of systems worldwide, similar to its original impact. This is due to the assumed low IT security awareness and poor antivirus protection. However, the actual penetration depth would depend on many factors, including the speed of response and containment efforts.

funny you should mention ILOVEYOU (circa 2000). That the last time my computer had a virus (as far as I know).

The 2 first worms that infected my machine around 2000, was I LOVE YOU, and Snowwhite and the seven dwarfs. The Snowwhite one made a big round spiral in the middle of the screen, so it was impossible to use the machine. That was right before I found Kaspersky. It was heavy back then, but just as good as today.

The only Virus that I can say that I was knowningly and definitively infected with was Dark Avenger from memory. Sometime in 1995 or thereabouts. It was destructive and even corrupted my Windows 3.11 installtion media which was 3.5" floppy discs back then. I can't remember how I got it, but it may even have come from a dial-up bulletin board, as this was around the time that the Internet was just starting. I also remember Webroot saving me clicking on a movie double extension about 10 years ago. That said, I may well have been infected in the years since unknowningly.
These days Malware is all about stealth and exfiltrating as much personal and financial data as possible.

exactly! that's why I asked since during that time many tech savvy people got caught by it.....notwithstanding the fact that many IT field people are eager for love.

My foray with Kaspersky and ESET was when I was hit with BusinessOrfice trojan back in the 90's

I avoided Snowwhile somehow, and did start using Kaspersky in that general timeframe -- heavy yes, I've recollection of many modules.
