Hello,

I cannot seem to find TM Firefox extension. The link in the Help Page leads to a dead Firefox extension page (either removed or hidden).

What is driving me crazy is the Help Page says if you cannot install Firefox extension, consider using another browser like Chrome 🤣

That was also one of the reasons I stopped using TrendMicro.

The issue is known since August 2025. Still no solution.

There is some extra info on the Japanese site: サポート情報 : トレンドマイクロ.
It seems they discontinued their Password Manager in favour of the new ID Protection. ID protection is not available on Firefox, so I suspect that the security toolbar won't be available on Firefox again.

I remember when Trend Micro had one of the best web filters on the market. It was aggressive in a good way and blocked almost everything it was supposed to. Back then, their web protection was a standout feature. Now, while their file-based protection is still solid and does a good job, the web protection side has clearly taken a hit and hasn’t kept up with modern threats or expectations.

What makes this more frustrating is the lack of consistency in updates, especially for the browser extensions. Stability and regular improvements used to be part of their reputation, and that just doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. For what it’s worth, I can still open a live chat with their support team and ask directly why development has slowed down so much—but honestly, it would probably be more effective if more users did the same. If enough people raise concerns, it might push them to take the issue seriously and actually prioritize improvements again

I believe @Trident shared some issues with TM which were later fixed. I am not sure if he is still in touch with TM support.

This link provides the Trend Micro Toolbar extension for Firefox . I don't know if it's what some people are looking for, as I don't use that antivirus program.

They actually have more employees than gendigital.
They may be having more employees, but the major revenue channels for Trend are small business and enterprice, MSPs and so on.

Trend Micro just like ZoneAlarm and some others doesn’t prioritise home user products.

For the 2026 edition, they’ve clearly made a lot of performance enhancements.

But the final touches (documentation, etc) haven’t been updated. Trend Micro’s latest release notes are from September and February last year.

The things for the home division are not looking so good and I bet it is not more than 5 people working there, which is also the case with ZoneAlarm.

Also, we are not seeing any new features so it looks like Trend Micro has entered maintenance mode.
Just a few months ago, Trend Micro upgraded their Advanced Threats Scan Engine from 22 to 24.
They’ve kept the home users on a 2-year-old engine when they have a new one released.
For the 25th engine, no release notes published, it’s been 4-5 months already.

I believe it is going through structural changes. They discontinued their Password Manager and now they released ID protection. I also noticed the disappearance of some folder in Trend Micro Program Files folder.

What is the folder that disappeared? I was told (haven’t checked) that they have switched to a new UI framework.

Before they used the dreaded QT WebView and presumably now they have switched to CEF (which is very irrational as many devs are now switching from CEF to Edge WebView).

The ID protection has been around for quite some time and yes, the password manager is gone.
This password manager was beyond awful, it was full of bugs.

I am sure when I was using TM two or three years ago, there was a TMTB folder. Now it is no longer there.

I also noticed that the offline installer of Trend Micro Maximum Security is 100 MB less in size.

TMTB was the Trend Micro’s Toolbar.

I believe it us under the UIFramework folder now.

The 100 mb are probably due to ditching QT WebEngine/WebView, this framework is enormous.

Trend announced 4 years ago that Europe is not their focus.

This was proven by delaying the release of Premium Security in the UK 6-7 years.
The product became available just now.

They are mainly focused on Japan, the surroundings and US.
Obviously in Japan they’ve got the biggest market share.

But in the US competition is rough with Norton and McAfee.

So Trend is effectively left as a leader in Japan and nowhere else.
Seems like now they are coming to their senses that they need the European market, but it’s too late as it’s already ruled by Eset, Avast and Bitdefender.

They also decided not to sell, but to focus on internal growth.

TrendAI is the next chapter for them.

I think Trend shifted their focus on the Enterprise right now. That's where the money is. They are one of the leaders in Enterprise Security. Lots of free solutions for the home users unlike in Enterprise which are under huge contracts.
Besides obviously reliable revenue streams from those valuable contracts, the pressure and competition in the enterprise market is vicious. Mighty investments to get ahead among the top competitors never cease.

They could use all hands on deck in that arena.
