It has a lot layers of protection, maybe to see how it handles with malware undetected by signatures

You know this is the user who has scanned the same pack of malware for almost 2 years. The detection rate for this collection of samples is meaningless as well as highly misleading. In their first test (Dr. Web) with this pack of malware (Jan. 2012), it detected 100% of the samples. This could mean these samples are 2.5 + years old, far too old to be of any use for what this user is trying to show.

@MalwareDoctor is right.
Testing AV on DOS malware is meaningless. If you will find infected MBRs - fine, but making test on infected .COMs? Who cares nowadays?
