Boston Marathon attack: FBI reveals bomb details

Images from the FBI probe into the deadly attack on the Boston Marathon have thrown light on the bombs used.

Images from a joint Homeland Security and FBI bulletin show the remains of a dark coloured backpack and remnants of what appears to be a pressure cooker.

Three people died, including an eight-year-old boy, and more than 170 were injured when two bombs exploded near the finish line of Monday's race.

President Barack Obama will travel to Boston on Thursday for a memorial.

The BBC's Paul Adams, in Boston, says vigils for the victims were held across the city on Tuesday night as Bostonians still wrestled with why anyone would want to attack their much-loved marathon.
