Ublock Origin Lite - not updated.

Yes, it seems the last update was on 16/01/2025. The developer might be working on a new version or there might be other reasons for the delay. It's best to contact the developer for accurate information.

Correct, with MV3 extensions the filter lists get an update when they release a new extension.
I switched to AdGuard (5.0.190, last update 13/02/2025).
Hope that uBO Lite will get a new update soon.
Same here and for the longest time adguard didn't do well with YouTube but appears they fixed things.

It doesn't matter that it hasn't been updated for 2 months.
Gorhill always has breaks in development,
May-> July was 2+ months. July-> 2. September+ months, November> only one month.
In the last 8 months alone there have been 3 pauses in updates for at least a month.

See It Why has Ublock origin has not been updated for a month now?
Two Ublock release list

All filters are updated.
There is a difference between browsers that support only MV3 and those that still allow MV2. In MV3-only browsers, ad blockers need to be updated more often because filter lists cannot be updated dynamically within the extension. In MV2-supported browsers, ad blockers do not require frequent updates, as filters can be updated within the extension itself without a full update.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

I think so.

Also in this post I'm talking about uBlock Origin Lite (MV3) and not uBlock Origin which is no longer present in Chrome.

So the lists should be stuck a month ago with uBlock Origin Lite. Correct?

Also I noticed that Ghostery in Chrome displays the day and time of the last update so even if the extension is not updated the lists are updated dynamically?

From the uBlock Origin Lite FAQ:

When do filter lists update?

When the extension updates to a new version (webextensions #112).

There are no filter lists proper in uBOL. There are declarative rulesets and scripts which are the results of compiling filter lists when the extension package is generated. Those declarative rulesets and scripts are updated only when the extension itself updates. As a result, uBOL never makes network requests to any remote servers.

I was always afraid of this, uBlock project is so reliant on a single person, especially when uBlock Origin Lite for Firefox extension store was dropped due to drama issues with Mozilla Extension Review Team

I'm also swapping to Adguard, at least they have a team of people and a company that wants it to succeed

Between AdGuard and Ghostery which one is better in terms of tracker filtering and privacy in your opinion?

Ghostery is out of the question for me, their extension tracks your location and other items

But we need to mention that even uBlock Origin latest Pre-release is from Jan 10, 2025. According to GitHub:

On this point, however, there are conflicting opinions, I also thought it was like this.
Instead, it seems that even if the version of the extension is not updated, the lists are updated in the cloud and therefore always remain up to date.

Can anyone clarify?
If that were the case, I would stick with uBlock Original Lite, which I would say works very well.

With the MV3 extensions (only allowed with Google Chrome) the lists only get an update when a new version of the extension is published.
uBO Lite and AdGuard were working around this by adding a quick fixes list but that was not allowed anymore by Google:

With MV2 extensions, like the original uBlock Origin, filter lists are updated automatically without the need for publishing a new version.

UBo lite does not get filter updates, Only extension updates, so move to Adguard:

That is the same with AdGuard see:
The issue here is that uBO Lite has not gotten any updates lately.

Ublock Origin lite never had quick fix filter, Gorhill has clearly said he will not do it as it is an ideological issue for him, he will not spend time on MV3 work arounds and has asked everyone to move to Firefox.

Adguard has again brought back Quick Fix filter but: "Now, of the script and scriptlet rules that are added to Custom filters, User rules or Quick fixes filter, only those already used in pre-built filters will work"
