Upgrading to 8GB's of RAM.

I am going to upgrade my laptop from 4GB of RAM to 8GB of RAM.

I'm wondering what RAM you guys think I should get:
Corsair
or
G.SKILL


Also, should I just buy 4GB of one of those brands and run them along side the factory RAM, or should I buy x2 of of one of those brands instead so I'm running two of the same brand instead of one of those brands with the factory RAM?
 
I don't think it matters much which brand you buy RAM from, so I guess go with Corsair or whatnot.
Same for the second question, you can most likely run the factory RAM along side other brands with no problems.
 
I was think that too until I saw this, 4.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 532MHz, so I think I'll get 8GB of RAM.

Okay on the Amazon link for my laptop, it says that it has 4GB of Ram, 2 slots. On speccy it shows that I have four slots, and two slots available...how is that possible? I have two SPD modules.

Also, the DRAM frequency is 531...this is probably wrong, but since I have DDR3 ram, does that mean the total frequency is like, about 1600 or no? That seems high for a factory set of RAM to me. NVM about that part, it says 4.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 532MHz...doesn't that like, suck? Compared to like 1333?

Nvm, remembered that you multiplied it by two, so it's 1033 Mhz, I'll just get two sticks of 4GB's of RAM.
 
Speccy can sometimes be inaccurate with what it says, it happened to both MrXidus here and me. For example, for my processor it displayed "AMD K8" (whatever that means), when in reality it's an Athlon TF-20. For Xidus, it displayed inaccurate clock rate, when in reality it was higher. Just so you should know.
 
all my laptop was upgrade to 8GB (V-Gen) for my second notebook and third use V-Gen and sure, with other brand without any problems.
 
I've always been a fan of Mushkin RAM, but I know Corsair puts out a good product.

I wouldn't mix new RAM with your existing, but maybe that's just me. Your new RAM likely has better latency numbers, but your system will be bottlenecked by your old RAM.

difference speed with new installed ram is can "downgrade"
if your new ram is PC-10600 (1333mhz) and old ram (already installed on machine) is 8500, your new ram will be run like PC-8500 or 1066mhz speed (downgrade) such as; my second laptop :)
 
I bought 1x4GB RAM from CorsAir, and now have a total of 5GB of RAM.

I did this like 2 weeks ago from amazon, i was very happy with it.

So i would suggest CorsAir. :)

Yes, that is what I said... That is what the term 'bottlenecked' means. Your old RAM isn't allowing the new RAM to perform to its fullest potential. (Not just clock speed, but also latency...)
 
I've used G.Skill in my desktop for a while now. Honestly, I prefer them over others because of the performance vs cost. I can't say much about their laptop ram though. Unless you really need the 8GB you can get by with 6GB for most things.
