We welcome Malwarebytes (aka MBAM) as a new engine working at VirusTotal. Malwarebytes was first released in 2008.

MBAM will be a good scanner for VT. Nano, probably not so much. I consider Nano to be one of their weaker scanners and as such predict Nano will rank below some of their purely heuristic-based scanners.

Virustotal is probably the most popular online virus scanning service on the Internet. The main reason for this, beside the fact that it has been around for a long time, is that it is easy to use, does not require you to register an account first to scan, and provides you access to currently 46 different antivirus engines that your files get tested against.

Google recently acquired the service
which many thought would be the end of the service on the Internet.[...]

Oh, well didn't even know. Guess it's good also that Malwarebytes is being added.
Indeed, MBAM has some very good definitions and a very low False Positive rate.... definitely a good addition.
Any idea what security developers get when they join VT? Do they have access to all the samples uploaded or something like that?

Including new antivirus solutions and tools in VirusTotal
I would like to include my antivirus product/URL analysis engine in VirusTotal, what should I do?

The process could not be easier, just contact us. We will tell you what we need.

In exchange for providing an antivirus solution you will receive all files submitted to VirusTotal that are not detected by your product and are detected by at least one other antivirus, along with their corresponding VirusTotal reports.

In exchange for allowing us to use a URL analysis engine you will receive the whole feed of URLs submitted to VirusTotal, along with their corresponding VirusTotal reports.
I requested the inclusion of my antivirus solution in VirusTotal some time ago and it has not been integrated yet

There is a relatively large waiting list for inclusion of antivirus solutions in VirusTotal, be patient. Integration of URL analysis engines is much quicker, so if you are still waiting do not hesitate to contact us.

Source.

They certainly do get samples. :)

I am quite sure that getting added to virus total gives them plenty of customers also
