Windows 8 owners will officially be able to get a version of the popular VLC media player for its "Modern" UI in (hopefully) a few more months. Today, the Kickstarter fund raising campaign to speed up development of the software went over their £40,000 goal with five days to go.
The Kickstarter page included a news update from the VideoLAN team but that update was for backers only.
In our previous interview with members of the team, they indicated that while a Windows 8 version of VLC would have been made eventually, it would likely take a couple of years due to the time constraints of the all-volunteer team. They stated, "Therefore we started this fundraiser in order to contract known developers to work on it full-time, to bootstrap the important parts."
