The Kickstarter page included a news update from the VideoLAN team but that update was for backers only. In our previous interview with members of the team, they indicated that while a Windows 8 version of VLC would have been made eventually, it would likely take a couple of years due to the time constraints of the all-volunteer team. They stated, "Therefore we started this fundraiser in order to contract known developers to work on it full-time, to bootstrap the important parts."
