Downloaded to try out Firefox. By default, this setting was set to "Don't enable HTTPS-only Mode".

If enabled, will it break many websites? What has been your experience with it?

It won't break any websites. If a website doesn't support HTTPS, Firefox will throw up this warning:
View attachment 272205
And you can proceed to the website if you so wish.
But sometimes for some reason Firefox would show this warning though the site supports HTTPS. To fix that Id refresh the site and it works with no warnings from Firefox.

I've never experienced that personally, though I practically never visit unencrypted sites.
Good to shout it out and how remedy it, though.

I concur with the views expresed above, no major issues with https breaking websites here and you will get the option to proceed to the http site if you wish to.

Most likely when some resources of the website use http, but I prefer https exclusive mode, because of privacy and security.
I have seen webpages to load http, then switch to https and anyone can see to what webpages you have connected and all the data.
