Windows 8 defender focuses on widespread active malwares , those the Average Joe may realistically encounter in the real-world. It is why Win8 defender seems weak compared to other3rd party products.

UAC reacted very few times. Is this usually a matter of malware not doing much damage to the system (so that admin proviledges to be re required) or something else? @Littlebits I need your lights !

UAC does not fully function in virtualization since it need direct access to Windows kernel.
Testing UAC in virtualization drops it down to software level instead of running at kernel level.
Secure Boot also can not be tested in virtualization.
