Kernel hooks can cause problems when the OS becomes old or to be rightly put, ancient that's the time your PC will suddenly BSoDs and we'll think our system is compromised and we try to start from scratch and after few months the problem creeps up again and after hours of troubleshooting we narrow the problem down to AVs, that's why I switched to MS AV for increased(somewhat) security, reliability and performance.
I'm not saying not to use 3rd party but be aware of this by updating the AV to latest version and before switching to new AV consider clearing all remnants of older AV before progressing.

I had SecureAPlus installed along with WD. I didn't know it was there. I'm not sure I had to, but I uninstalled it until after the Anniversary update hits. Anyone else concerned some security software may not work properly?

the pros over at tenforums.com generally advise people that WD + common sense is good protection, and the best setup.
So why do we go crazy about security softs over here at MT?
There are people with malware attacks even with best 3rd party AVs also. I prefer not to name them.
