Thank you for testing and posting this. I was going to do one myself on windows defaults. Windows default security is quite solid.

Pretty good protection but still binds to have different techniques compare to third party.

Using Microsoft Edge/IE will help the combination of WD because of Smartscreen detection.

I just used WD + ZAM Premium, Pandora enabled for some time.
Apart a lack of specific antiphishing protection (only Firefox) is a good combo and I've definitely gained in the system resources.

I suppose if you know what your doing, use something like AppGuard on locked down mode then you would be secure to use Windows Defender.

I believe this product improved a lot in the last period. It is known to miss some adware. I believe it is good to use it paired with anti-EXE
