Windows Phone 7 update bricks some handsets - Microsoft in security middle ground
Microsoft has since pulled the update, but only for the Samsung Omnia handsets affected by the flaw. Even more embarrassing, the update was intended to improve the updating process and provided no enhancements for users of the phones.
If you have one of the affected devices there are experimental instructions on how to recover your phone.

Which is one of the reasons I stay clear from Windows phone and stick to what I know works (Android) but even then, they're not perfect judging by your thread on plain text / data being sent over when using Facebook etc...
