Just yesterday, members of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists moved the iconic Doomsday Clock they have been maintaining since 1947 to just 3 minutes to midnight. What this means is that humanity and the planet are pretty darn close to a global catastrophe.
For those unaware, this so-called Doomsday Clock was set up to warn people about how close the world was to a disaster that could end civilization as we know it. The Clock was last moved in 2012, when it was fixed at 5 minutes to midnight.

Members of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists explain that the reason why they pushed the clock 2 minutes forward is because, despite warnings, climate change and global warming are yet to be properly addressed. Besides, nuclear arsenals haven't been reduced.

“In 2015, Unchecked climate change, global nuclear weapons modernizations, and outsized nuclear weapons arsenals pose extraordinary and undeniable threats to the continued existence of humanity,” the scientists argue.

Mind you, the fact that the Doomsday Clock now shows 3 minutes to midnight does not mean that the end of the world is upon us and there is nothing we can do about it. It just means that we are running out of time to avoid a global catastrophe in the making.
