it also depends on the phone makers LG is known be weak at optimization despite having good chipset my experience tells that having an octa-core processor will benefit everyone in 2019 Why? My galaxy S7 G930U snapdragon 820 has quadcore processor and the exynos variant has 8 cores after upgrading to android 8, my phone has become a midrange phone instead of a flagship because the speed has decreased very noticeably. Meanwhile, everyone with exynos variant reported they noticed a performance boost and their phones were still fast Galaxy S6, which also uses old exynos octa-core processor also received a performance boost after upgrading. Some people said S6 exynos on android 8 was even faster than S7 snapdragon on android 8 IMHO, having a quadcore in 2019 will cause a lot of trouble how to test if they are good enough in 2019 or not: - open google maps, latest version - try to navigate from place A to B and notice the smoothness - zoom in and out or drag around my phone is super slow while doing these tasks
