I'm probably in the wrong please, sorry but it's a friend's pc so i wouldn't be able to answer all the questions in malware forum.

My friend lost all his emails and yahoo said that he wasn't using it enough set up a new account he found a phone number and spoke to a man who asked him questions and said right now I'm in charge and will put them back for you which he did but then asked for £199 m friend said he is a pensioner and can't afford that so the man said senior citizens can pay £109 can't afford well what can you afford, nothing at the moment I'm skint, he then watches the cursor move and his emails are gone again and the man says ring me when you need me.

I think he's been hacked and was talking to the hacker, what do you all think please.

I would try to find some way to regain access to the account, via the forgot password feature, or look for another type of help from Yahoo. Negotiating with this guy will probably result in losing more and more money.

Hello,
Can he login in Yahoo mail? If yes, then he should immediately change the password.

You can contact Yahoo by using this form: https://io.help.yahoo.com/contact/index?page=contact&locale=en_US&y=PROD_ACCT#

To restore the email you can use this form: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/ymail/restore.html

At this point, I really think that would be better if you just call Yahoo and explain to them the issue: Dial 1-800-318-0612 (For US). This is the number for the automated Yahoo! Customer Care. The number is toll-free.

Call Yahoo toll-free at 1-800-318-0612 if you’re in the U.S. or Canada.

If you’re not in the U.S. or Canada, call Yahoo toll number at 1-408-916-2100

International users Call 509-797-6330

Twitter - https://twitter.com/YahooCare
Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/YahooCustomerCa...

TIP: DO NOT GIVE YOUR PASSWORD TO ANYONE. Yahoo will not ask it, and you should not give it. Also, you should not pay any amount of money to these cyber criminals, as this will just encourage them to continue this type of illegal activities.

Very good tips, Jack! :)
Indeed calling Yahoo seems like a good idea, as well as not paying the money to the guy on the phone.

Knownothing, Do you mean the pointer on the computer moved by itself?
If yes, in my opinion, it's recommended to do a virus check on the computer.
You can refer your friend to see our: "Malware Removal Assistance" forum and before opening a topic please see: http://malwaretips.com/threads/malware-removal-assistance-how-to-get-help.20334/

Maybe they have used a remote control software like "Team Viewer" to control the PC. This really sounds similar to a "Tech Support" scam, nevertheless a check for malware is always a good idea. :)
