Blizzard enabled the money auction house in Diablo 3 some time ago where players were able to sell and buy items for real currency. As for the topic in question, it was bound to happen with TF2 being the starting point, although I do not believe it will last that long. Sure Steam is very well known but at the same time, it is also known for a few of the following:

*relatively high technical difficulties across the globe ranging from users to games
*Steam Greenlight is not the best approach
*iOS ports to PC that are just... Ok I will rephrase it, I rather buy an iOS and play it there due to:
-Poor ports
-Extremely overpriced for an iOS port to be run on PC

In my opinion, it is actually a desperate move to try to capitalize the market.

I am not even going to the DLC modules of the games itself since thats a completely different topic.
