On Wednesday, we learned that hackers from the ZCompany Hacking Crew (ZHC) gained access to several online accounts owned by Israel’s Vice Prime Minister Silvan Shalom, including his Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Gmail and YouTube.
In the second phase of the attack, the hackers have leaked several pieces of information they've found in the accounts.
The file they’ve published online contains phone numbers of Shalom and his staff members, the official’s email addresses, his contact list – comprising names and emails –, and the details of several volunteers engaged in government activities.
They’ve also leaked screenshots picturing several emails, including one that appears to be sent by US Senator Orrin Hatch.
The details of an email (see screenshot) regarding the transfer of some funds from the Kuwait Finance House have also been published. Although, at first sight, this may appear to be some secret collaboration with Kuwait, it might also be a classic 419 scam, which intentionally or unintentionally landed in Shalom’s email account.
In the leak, the hackers also once again clarify the fact that they’re not part of the Anonymous movement, despite the fact that they support OpIsrael.
“ZHC is Hackers Collective from around the world with a common cause to fight against injustice and oppression. We do not hack without a reason nor do we endorse it,” the hackers wrote.
“Our Recent Hacking of social media profiles of Israel's VPM Mr Silvan Shalom was motivated by his recent statement in which he threatened to blow up Gaza. Gaza is not just in Palestine we are all Gaza.”
Hacktivists from all over the world have been launching cyberattacks against Israel ever since the country intensified its airstrikes against Gaza. However, it seems they haven’t managed to cause any major damage to government infrastructure.
So far, this attack conducted by ZHC appears to be the one that caused the most damage. Then again, OpIsrael is not over yet.
