My son tried to download a game and mid download starting getting MANY popups. He used task manager to shut the download process down and waited until we got home to tell us the issue. I ran Malwarebytes and it showed 1148 items that it detected and I opted to delete. My screen was zoomed in. I worked with my display and still can't get it to look normal. I deleted the ad programs through uninstall. They uninstalled fine, but the muvic toolbar is still there and won't uninstall. I went to thread http://malwaretips.com/blogs/muvic-toolbar-removal/ and followed all steps. Each step caught items and resolved them, but didn't remove Muvic and it still wont allow me to uninstall. Muvic toolbar was never listed on my internet explorer, but I did notice some redirection to bing when I would type in a specific email address. I haven't had the redirection issue since I did the scans listed on the mentioned thread. I need help removing Muvic from my programs, as well as any footprint that it or its Ad programs caused.

Thank you for any help!

Hello,

They call me TwinHeadedEagle around here, and I'll be working with you.

Before we start please read and note the following:
  • At the top of your post, please click on the "Watch thread" button and make sure to check Watch this thread...and receive email notifications. This will send an email to you as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing me to solve your problem faster.
  • Please do not install any new software during the cleaning process other than the tools I provide for you. This can hinder the cleaning process. Please do not perform System Restore or any other restore.
  • Instructions I give to you are very simple and made for complete beginner to follow. That's why you need to read through my instructions carefully and completely before executing them.
  • Please do not run any tools other than the ones I ask you to, when I ask you to. Some of these tools can be very dangerous if used improperly. Also, if you use a tool that I have not requested you use, it can cause false positives, thereby delaying the complete cleaning of your machine.
  • All tools we use here are completely clean and do not contain any malware. If your antivirus detects them as malicious, please disable your antivirus and then continue.
  • If during the process you run across anything that is not in my instructions, please stop and ask. If any tool is running too much time (few hours), please stop and inform me.
  • I visit forum several times at day, making sure to respond to everyone's topic as fast as possible. But bear in mind that I have private life like everyone and I cannot be here 24/7. So please be patient with me. Also, some infections require less, and some more time to be removed completely, so bear this in mind and be patient.
  • Please stay with me until the end of all steps and procedures and I declare your system clean. Just because there is a lack of symptoms does not indicate a clean machine. If you solved your problem yourself, set aside two minutes to let me know.
  • Please attach all report using
    fjqb1h.png
button below. Doing this, you make it easier for me to analyze and fix your problem.

  • Do not ask for help for your business PC. Companies are making revenue via computers, so it is good thing to pay someone to repair it.
  • If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed.

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatibale with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them.
Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

First, go to Control Panel and uninstall following (skip lines that cannot be uninstalled):
- Muvic Smartbar
- Muvic Smartbar Engine

FRST.gif
Fix with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

icon_exclaim.gif
This fix was created for this user for use on that particular machine.

icon_exclaim.gif
Running it on another one may cause damage and render the system unstable.
icon_exclaim.gif

Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop:

Both files, FRST and fixlist.txt have to be in the same location or the fix will not work!

  • Right-click on
    FRST.gif
    icon and select
    RunAsAdmin.jpg
Run as Administrator to start the tool.
(XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).
  • Press the Fix button just once and wait.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  • When finished FRST will generate a log on the Desktop, called Fixlog.txt.

Please attach it to your reply.

adwcleaner_new.png
Fix with AdwCleaner

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save the file to your desktop.

  • Right-click on
    adwcleaner_new.png
    icon and select
    RunAsAdmin.jpg
Run as Administrator to start the tool.
  • Follow the prompts and click Scan.
  • When finished, please click Clean.
  • Upon completion, click Report. A log (AdwCleaner[S*].txt) will open.

Please include the contents of that file in your reply.

Neither component would uninstall. Do you want me to proceed with farbar still?

Farbar is not letting me upload it. It doesn't do anything when I click on the link. Any ideas?

The link is inactive for the farbar fix. It won't let me click or download anything. The following link on AdwCleaner is active but the farbar fix is not.

You already have FRST downloaded, don't you? You just need to place FRST and Fixlist on the same location and to click Fix within FRST.

This is what it will not let me do. "Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop". This link "Fix with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool" is not active for me. It won't let me download the fix. I have a FRST64.exe on my computer that I can run, but from the instructions that you gave, it sounded liked the "Fix with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool" had some kind of fix with it that the program already on my system from the step that you told me to download it didn't have. It is the Fix with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool that it isn't allowing me to download, assuming it something separate from what you told to download at the very beginning. This is what I am struggling doing. I am sorry if I wasn't clear about that in my previous responses and I really do appreciate your help. :)

You ever have those moments when you feel like a complete idiot, well I just had one. I thought the words "Fix with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool" was a hyperlink and I couldn't get it to open. That is where ALL of the confusion came from. I scrolled down a little futher and saw the uploaded fixlist document that you were talking about the whole time. I am SO sorry. Thank you for being patient with me. :) I am running scans now and will attach docs you asked for.

muvic toolbar still shoes under program list. Do you want me to try uninstalling it again?

I also get an error message when I try to play solitare on hard drive that came with computer. I never got the error before my son tried downloading the game. The error says "Hardware acceleration is either disabled or not supported by your video card driver, which could slow game performance. Make sure you have the latest video card driver installed and that hardware acceleration is turned on."

When my sis was going to help me, we discovered that my computer was not set up to restore. She would going to have me restore to the point prior to him downloading the game. But we discovered that it was turned off. So, I think the muvic did something with that too.

Thanks again.
