Microsoft is working to make Windows 9 to better tackle users’ needs and in order to do so, the company wants to implement more configuration options that would allow them to enable the features they want.

- The option will be available via taskbar properties

This is the case with the Start menu, which is set to return in Windows 9 and most likely in Windows 9 Preview later this month.

Microsoft announced in April 2014 at the BUILD developer conference in San Francisco that the Start menu would return in a future OS update and screenshots that leaked recently confirmed that Windows 9 is the version to bring this feature back.

The Start menu will combine the layout available in Windows 7 with new features offered to Windows 8 users, such as live tiles, with several options that would help everyone access apps faster.

Options to use the Start screen instead

Unsurprisingly, many of the people that previously called for a Start menu no longer want one, as many actually understood that the Start screen indeed brings many advantages in a modern OS.

And still, there’s no doubt that there are some people who want a Start menu in Windows, so Microsoft is looking to make the operating system better adapt to everyone.

A leaked video that reached the web this morning shows that users will be allowed to turn off the Start menu if they do not like it and stick to the Start screen as it was the case in Windows 8.

Quickly accessible via taskbar properties, the option enables consumers to “use the Start menu instead of the Start screen,” as you can see in the screenshot included in this article.

The Start menu will be turned on by default on PCs

This new option will be selected by default when Windows 9 is installed on a PC, as Microsoft is working to implement different behavior based on the device you own.

As a result, because you still use a mouse and a keyboard and a Start menu would come in much handier, the Start menu will be enabled by default, so you’ll find this option checked in taskbar properties.

However, if you use a tablet, this option won’t be enabled, so every time you start the device, you shall see the same Start screen but with some visual changes.

The Start menu will also be available in the preview build of Windows 9 due this month, but some people said that Microsoft might lock it at first. Of course, the company hasn’t yet commented on this, but more information should be provided in the coming weeks.
