F-Secure Internet Security 2011 – A Friendly Security Suite [REVIEW]

Pros:

1. Very good antivirus engine.
2. Offers a high degree of prevention due to their DeepGuard behavior analyzer
3. Very light on the system
4. Simple and userfriendly UI
5. Web URL safety ratings ,Web Guard and exploit detection ensure safer online surfing
6. F-Secure IS won the “AV-Comparatives” Product Of The Year

Cons:

1. Firewall needs a better white list.
2. Limited parental control

Bottom Line:

F-Secure IS won the “AV-Comparatives” Product Of The Year and that’s says a lot.It’s inspiring to see a company which has languished as an unimpressive performer for years finally get back on the horse and take a leadership position in the security software space.
F-Secure with his antivirus engine, the fine tuned behavior blocker and all the other features will keep a regular computer safe.
What I didn’t like in this Internet Security Suite is the fact that a very usefull feature , a list with monitored programs is hidden in the Deep Guard settings.
Overall this suite is a great chooice for security newbies.

Proactive protection technology that employs behavioral analysis and “in-the-cloud” computing to provide instant protection against new threats

How does it work?

1. F-Secure DeepGuard detects when a Windows application is launched.
2. The new Network Lookup feature asks the “cloud” about the application.
3. The “cloud” answers instantly within a fraction of a second!
4. DeepGuard takes the appropriate action based on the cloud’s answer: Good applications are allowed and bad applications are blocked.

If you click on “Open list of monitored programs” , you get this window…Wich is great if you want to block a piece of malware that F-Secure might miss.

What I would like to see in the 2012 version :

• Cloud scaning & reputation
• A powerfull HIPS which is disabled by default and can be enabled per user request ,like in Vipre Antivirus Premium,just to keep F-Secure user friendly.
