A message from “IT Support” says your mailbox will disappear tomorrow. It feels personal, urgent, and frighteningly easy to fix.
The cancellation button looks like a lifeline. Before touching it, take a closer look at what the notice actually knows about your account.
Overview
The warning invents a deletion request
The Account Deletion Request email scam impersonates an automated help desk and claims a server received several requests to erase the recipient’s mailbox.
It warns that processing will start within 24 hours. Messages, documents, and account access supposedly vanish unless the owner intervenes immediately.
No real deletion request exists. The deadline and server language are props designed to make an ordinary phishing button feel like emergency account maintenance.
The email may use the recipient’s address, domain, or company name. Those details can come from public records, breaches, or automated mail personalization.
Knowing an address does not prove access to its server. Anyone sending email already knows the address where the message arrived.
The cancellation button opens a counterfeit mailbox login
The observed button led to tcmservicemart.com, an unrelated domain displaying a page styled like Roundcube Webmail.
Roundcube is a legitimate open-source email client used by many hosting companies. It has no involvement with the copied login page or campaign.
The phishing page prefilled the victim’s email address. That small detail can create the impression that the supposed server recognized the account.
The page then asked for the mailbox password. Anything typed there could be collected by the campaign operator instead of authenticating with a real provider.
A cancellation process does not require entering credentials on a retail service domain unrelated to the organization hosting the mailbox.
A stolen inbox can unlock much more than email
Email is often the recovery hub for banking, shopping, cloud storage, payroll, and social accounts. Control of it creates several paths toward additional harm.
An intruder can read old messages, search for invoices, collect identity documents, and discover which services the owner uses.
They can request password resets, intercept verification messages, or impersonate the victim when contacting colleagues and family members.
Business mailboxes expose another opportunity. Criminals can study supplier conversations and insert fraudulent banking details into a genuine payment thread.

How The Scam Works
Step 1: The campaign chooses a mailbox worth frightening
Attackers send the lure broadly or target addresses connected with businesses, hosted domains, clubs, schools, and small organizations.
Generic webmail users are attractive because the same message can imitate many hosting environments without naming Gmail or Microsoft directly.
Public contact pages often reveal addresses such as accounting, sales, administration, or support. Those roles may also have access to valuable conversations.
Older breach lists can add names, employers, and previously used passwords. None of that proves current server control.
The campaign only needs a small percentage of recipients to believe a confusing administrative mistake might have occurred.
Step 2: An automated support identity avoids difficult questions
The sender uses a label such as Host Server or IT Support rather than a person who could be contacted through an internal directory.
Automation explains why the greeting is generic and why the message offers only one button instead of a normal support conversation.
Technical phrases about server requests sound authoritative while remaining vague. The email does not identify who requested deletion or where that action was logged.
Some versions claim multiple requests were detected. Repetition makes the fictional event sound confirmed, even though no evidence appears.
A legitimate administrator can provide a ticket number, policy, audit record, and independent contact route. The scam offers urgency instead.
Step 3: Permanent loss creates emotional pressure
The message threatens removal of data and documents, not merely temporary sign-out. That raises the perceived cost of ignoring it.
A 24-hour window leaves enough time to seem procedural but little enough to discourage asking a coworker or provider for help.
People who recently changed hosting settings may find the claim especially believable. The scam benefits from coincidences it did not cause.
The cancellation wording also reverses normal caution. Clicking an unknown button appears safer than doing nothing because it supposedly preserves data.

Step 4: The button hides an unrelated destination
Visible button text says Request Cancellation, but the underlying link determines where the browser actually goes.

The observed host, tcmservicemart.com, did not match the victim’s email provider or the Roundcube project.
HTTPS does not repair that mismatch. Encryption protects traffic between the browser and the phishing server, including any password entered there.
Attackers may replace the destination as reports accumulate. The precise domain changes, while the off-domain cancellation pattern remains recognizable.
Step 5: A copied Roundcube form borrows visual trust
The landing page imitates a familiar webmail product because many domain owners have seen similar login screens through their hosting control panels.
Logos, colors, and field placement are easy to reproduce. A convincing layout says nothing about who receives the submitted form.
Prefilling the address reduces friction and makes the page seem connected with the email. That value can simply be carried inside the phishing URL.
The victim sees only one remaining task, entering the password. No legitimate mailbox data must be loaded for the illusion to work.
After submission, the page may display an error, redirect elsewhere, or claim the deletion was canceled. Those outcomes conceal the theft.
Step 6: The password is tested against the real service
Captured credentials can be tested quickly against common webmail portals, hosting panels, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, or the domain’s published mail server.
If the same password protects another account, automated credential-stuffing attempts can widen the compromise.
Successful access may be quiet. An intruder can create forwarding rules or application passwords instead of immediately changing the main password.
Silent persistence lets them monitor invoices, password resets, and private discussions while the owner continues using the inbox normally.
Multifactor authentication limits many password-only attacks, but victims can still be targeted with approval prompts and session-stealing follow-ups.
Step 7: The mailbox becomes a platform for later fraud
