GodDamn Ransomware EXPOSED: .God8Damn Files and a 12-Hour Discount

You open Documents the way you did yesterday. The vacation photo should still be vacation.jpg. The invoice should still be invoice-2026.pdf. The tax sheet should still be taxes.xlsx. Instead every familiar name has a bracketed code and a second ending tacked on. In the sample format this locker uses, 1.jpg is now 1.jpg.[1CAAA6F2-5979CA69].God8Damn. A small text file named README.TXT is sitting in the same folder, as if it has always belonged there.
That is the trap, not a glitch. GodDamn ransomware locks the files first. Then it keeps the old name, hangs a victim ID in brackets, and writes .God8Damn on the end. Then it drops README.TXT and talks like a help desk. The note is a storefront. It tells you the data is encrypted. It tells you to contact them fast. It says the first 12 hours the price is 50% of the real cost. It tells you not to hire a decryption company. It points at two inboxes and a Tox chat.
This page is for the moment those names appear. It explains the rename, the README.TXT note, the 12-hour discount, the Hotmail and cyberfear addresses, and why a qTox ID printed in that file is not a recovery team. It is not a tour of ransomware in general. It is about this strain, the one that leaves .God8Damn on the end and a README that wants you in a private chat before the clock they invented runs out.

Overview
The first tell is the rename. GodDamn does not hide the original filename behind a code. It keeps the old name and the old extension, then inserts a victim ID in square brackets, then appends .God8Damn. In the sample format used for this page, 1.jpg becomes 1.jpg.[1CAAA6F2-5979CA69].God8Damn. vacation.jpg becomes vacation.jpg.[1CAAA6F2-5979CA69].God8Damn. invoice-2026.pdf becomes invoice-2026.pdf.[1CAAA6F2-5979CA69].God8Damn. taxes.xlsx becomes taxes.xlsx.[1CAAA6F2-5979CA69].God8Damn. family.mp4 becomes family.mp4.[1CAAA6F2-5979CA69].God8Damn. You can still read what the file used to be. You cannot open it.
That bracketed string is a sample of the format, not every victim’s ID. The one on your disk is the one that matters. This page will not invent a second one for you. Windows may now call the type a GOD8DAMN file and offer you a useless “choose an app” box. An app cannot talk the bytes back into a JPEG. Double-clicking vacation.jpg.[1CAAA6F2-5979CA69].God8Damn does not open the photo. Spreadsheet software does not open taxes.xlsx.[1CAAA6F2-5979CA69].God8Damn. A video player does not open family.mp4.[1CAAA6F2-5979CA69].God8Damn. The listing still has one object per file. The shock lands because the names still look like yours. The lock is in the content, not in the label.
The second tell is the note. After the files are locked, the malware drops README.TXT into the same folders. The filename is ordinary on purpose. Plenty of real software drops a README. This one uses that habit against you. It is meant to be the first thing you double-click when the folder already looks wrong.
The note says your data has been encrypted. It tells you to contact them fast. It says that in the first 12 hours the price is 50% of the real cost. It tells you not to hire a decryption company. It names two mailboxes: God8Damn@hotmail.com and god8damn@cyberfear.com. It points you at a Tox download page and says a qTox ID is in the note. This page will not invent or paste a fake qTox ID. The one on your disk is the one they want you to copy. The note does not print a ransom $ amount. The missing number is not mercy. It is a blank invoice.
The third tell is the sale. A 12-hour window at 50% of “the real cost” is not a coupon from a real shop. It is a timer that starts the moment you read the file. Twelve hours is long enough to feel official and short enough to stop you from sleeping, asking a friend, or reading a page like this one twice. There is no independent clock. There is no “real cost” you can audit. The $ figure is missing on purpose so the first conversation can set it later, after you have already written to their inbox or opened their Tox chat.
That is the whole costume. A locked folder of .God8Damn names with a bracketed ID. A README.TXT that talks like a help file. A 12-hour 50% sale with no printed $ amount. Two inboxes. A Tox door. There is no public free decryptor known for this strain. There is no reason to write those addresses. There is no reason to install qTox today because a ransom note told you to.
Public reporting from Symantec’s Threat Hunter Team, published on security.com, says GodDamn is a rebrand of Beast, and Beast was itself a rebrand of Monster, a family first seen in 2022. Symantec tracks the developer as Hyadina and documented GodDamn as first seen around May 21, 2026. In the attack they investigated, operators used AnyDesk, NirSoft credential tools, a user-mode defense evasion tool named to look like a Symantec product, and the PoisonX kernel driver, which carried a Microsoft Hardware Compatibility signature, to disable endpoint defenses before the lock. In some attacks the ending is .God8Damn. In others the files were renamed with the victim’s own name as the extension instead. Both are the same locker. Neither one is a hint that the file can be renamed back to normal.
The .God8Damn name is the first warning
Most lockers pick an extension so you notice the change in seconds. GodDamn uses .God8Damn. The extra cruelty is how readable the listing stays. You do not have to decode anything. You can still see 1.jpg inside 1.jpg.[1CAAA6F2-5979CA69].God8Damn. You can still see the invoice year. You can still see the word taxes. The familiar words are still in the folder. The files are not familiar anymore.
Do not treat that readable name as a fix. Do not strip .God8Damn off the end and expect Photos or Excel to open the file. Do not delete the bracketed ID because it looks like junk. Do not run a bulk “extension fixer” you found in an ad. The name is a label. The lock is in the content. Editing the label can make a later trusted tool have a harder time matching the file to what it was. Leave the locked copies as they are until you have a clean machine and a plan that does not start in a criminal inbox.
The same readable names also make a later scam easier. Anyone who sees a pile of .God8Damn files can pretend they already “have your case.” They can quote vacation.jpg.[1CAAA6F2-5979CA69].God8Damn back to you. They can offer a paid unlock. The extension is branding. The leftover original name is branding. The ID in brackets is branding. None of that is a hint that the file can be renamed back to normal.
The brand on the disk is .God8Damn. The family name in public reporting is GodDamn. That extra 8 is not a serial you can decode at home, and it is not a version you can match to a free key. Search results will mix the two spellings. Stay with the ending you can see. If the file is invoice-2026.pdf.[1CAAA6F2-5979CA69].God8Damn, that is the stamp that matters, not a comment that “GodDamn” and “God8Damn” must be two different gangs.
The bracket ID is a handle, not a key
The sample ID on this page is 1CAAA6F2-5979CA69. Treat that string as a sample of the format, not as your ID, and not as every victim’s ID. The code on your disk is the one that belongs to that machine. It is sitting in the filename so you will notice it, copy it, and feel already in a case file.
An ID like that is useful to the people who wrote the locker. It lets them keep your chat separate from the next victim. It lets a later fake helper say “send me your README” and look prepared. It lets them greet you by number so the first email feels like a ticket, not a threat. Copy the filename for your own records if you need to describe the incident. Do not paste that ID into a stranger’s form. Do not read the ID out on a phone call that started with “we can decrypt .God8Damn files.”
Do not treat the ID as a password you can type into a Decrypt box. This strain does not hand you a key field on the desktop. The note wants you in email or in Tox. The ID is a label they already assigned. Typing it into a “universal decryptor” from a search ad is how a second infection starts.
README.TXT is a sales floor, not a help file
The note is a plain text file with a name that sounds like documentation. README.TXT looks like a utility that came with the lock. It did. It came with the lock the way a fake invoice comes with a fake shop. README wants the first click after the panic.
The file tells you the data is encrypted. Then it tells you to contact them fast. Then it starts the sale. First 12 hours, 50% of the real cost. Then it warns you not to hire a decryption company. Then it prints the two inboxes and points at Tox. That order matters. Scare. Hurry. Discount. Monopoly. Checkout.
Notice what the note does not give you. It does not give you a $ figure. It does not give you a wallet. It does not give you a support ticket that a real company would honor. It does not give you a refund policy. It does not give you a way to prove the other side will ever send a key. It gives you a clock, two mailboxes, a messenger ID, and a tone that says this is already decided. That tone is the product.
A ransom note can sound calm and still be a threat. Calm is cheaper than a skull. A short file is easier to read when you are scared. The people who wrote it want you to finish the page and then finish their checkout. Read it as a sales flyer that was dropped after a break-in. Then close it. Keep the file on disk. Do not treat it as a set of steps you should follow.
The 12-hour 50% line is a sale, not a coupon
The note says the first 12 hours the price is 50% of the real cost. That sentence is doing two jobs. It sounds like a limited offer. It also starts a clock in your head. Fifty percent of an unnamed $ amount is still an unnamed $ amount. You cannot know what “the real cost” is because they never printed it. You cannot know whether the clock is real because they own both the timer and the inbox.
A sale with no price is a way to make you ask for the price. Asking for the price is contact. Contact is the rest of the attack. Once you write God8Damn@hotmail.com or open qTox, they can name any $ figure they like, then raise it, then offer another 50% if you stay in the chat. The first discount is not a contract. It is a way to keep you sitting at their counter.
People who enter that chat often get a price only after they have already described their files, their company, or their backups. That is why the note itself prints no ransom $ amount. The first page is the hook. The number comes later, when they think they know what you will pay.
Do not stay up to “catch the window.” The files are already locked. Another 12 hours of panic will not unlock them. A later email that says the 50% expired is still the same shop. A later email that offers 25% more off is still the same shop.
The two inboxes and Tox are the storefront
The printed contacts are God8Damn@hotmail.com and god8damn@cyberfear.com. The note also sends you to a Tox download page and tells you a qTox ID is waiting in the same file. Keep those strings as identifiers. Do not treat them as a help desk. Do not send a sample file to prove you are a real victim. Do not argue about a price that has not even been named yet. Those addresses belong to the people who locked the files.
Hotmail looks ordinary. That is the point. An everyday mailbox is easier to type when you are scared than a hidden site. cyberfear.com looks like a specialist shop. That is also the point. One door looks casual. The other looks technical. Both doors lead to the same counter.
Tox is a real messenger. qTox is a real client. This page is not asking you to uninstall it if you already use it for other reasons. Installing it today because README.TXT told you to is how a flyer becomes a live conversation. A qTox ID is a handle they control. This page will not invent one, and it will not paste a fake one. If an ID is in your note, treat it the same way you treat the inboxes. It is a door they opened for themselves. It is not a safe chat.
A different ending can still be the same locker
Symantec’s report on security.com says that in some GodDamn attacks the encrypted files were renamed with .God8Damn, and in the incident they investigated the files were renamed with the name of the victim organization as the extension instead. That is unusual enough that a shop can waste the first hour hunting for the wrong brand.
If your files end in a company name, a last name, or some other word that is not .God8Damn, look at the rest of the costume. Is README.TXT in the folder? Does it name God8Damn@hotmail.com or god8damn@cyberfear.com? Does it talk about a 12-hour 50% price and a Tox chat? If those pieces match, you are still in this family. You are not in a different pop-up that happened to lock a disk.
This is also not an old browser scare that happened to use the word Beast. Public reporting ties GodDamn to the Beast ransomware family, then back to Monster in 2022. That is a file locker lineage. The names on disk are the proof. A pop-up that only shouted “Beast” years ago is a different problem. Do not invent a new extension to search. Use the ending you actually have, plus the note filename, plus the two inboxes. That is enough to describe the incident.
A later helper who insists “real GodDamn always uses .God8Damn” is either uninformed or selling a narrower story so they can charge you for a “special” variant. The public write-up already said the ending can change. The storefront in README.TXT is the stabler tell.
How The Scam Works
The shop is simple once you stop reading it as a rescue. Lock the files. Brand the names with an ID and .God8Damn, or with the victim’s own name. Drop a README that sounds like documentation. Start a 12-hour 50% sale with no printed $ amount. Warn you off every other helper. Point the scared person at Hotmail, cyberfear, and Tox. Keep the number off the page so the first conversation can set it later, in private, after you have already stepped inside.
1. The lock keeps the old name so you recognize the loss
GodDamn encrypts the files it wants as leverage, then keeps the original name, inserts a bracketed ID, and appends .God8Damn. That is why 1.jpg is still readable as 1.jpg.[1CAAA6F2-5979CA69].God8Damn. The operators want you to inventory the damage in seconds. They want you to see the vacation photo, the invoice, the tax sheet, and the family video in one glance. A coded filename can confuse you. A readable filename makes you feel the theft.
The types that usually get hit are the ones people miss first. Pictures. Documents. Spreadsheets. Videos. Archives. Anything that looks like work or memory. System files may still boot. The browser may still open. That is not mercy. A machine that still turns on is a machine that can still open README.TXT and still load a Hotmail compose window.
If only one folder looks wrong, do not assume the rest of the disk is safe. Ransomware walks trees. It hits Documents, Desktop, Pictures, Downloads, and any drive letter it can reach, including a USB stick you forgot was plugged in. The same pass can reach a mapped share. The readable names make that walk look smaller than it is, because each object still “looks like” the file you lost.
2. README.TXT turns a break-in into a help file
The ransom note is a simple text file named README.TXT. It is meant to be the first thing you double-click when the folder already looks wrong. The name sounds like a key. The file is a script for what they want you to do next.
It tells you the data is encrypted. It tells you the way back is contact, and that contact has to be fast. It tells you the first 12 hours cost 50% of the real price. It tells you not to hire a decryption company. It offers two mailboxes and a Tox path. That order is a funnel. Scare. Hurry. Discount. Exclusive aisle. Checkout.
Save a copy of that file on a clean machine if you can do it safely. The note is evidence. It helps a responder match the strain. It is also the document police and insurers ask for. Do not follow the instructions on it. Do not use it as a to-do list.
3. The 12-hour discount starts a clock they own
A 50% sale with no $ figure is a dare. It dares you to write before you think. It dares you to skip the person who would tell you to stop. Twelve hours is a workday plus the evening. That is long enough to feel like a real offer and short enough to cancel sleep.
There is no independent clock. There is no ticket you can escalate. If they reply in two hours, that is still the same shop. If they reply after the “window,” that is still the same shop. If they never reply, you have already told them you are the kind of victim who follows the flyer. The promise is not a contract. It is a way to keep you sitting at the inbox.
People pay timers with attention first, then with money. If the note can own the next 12 hours, it does not need a printed $ figure. You will ask for the figure yourself. That is the design. Put the clock down. The files are already locked.
4. “Do not hire a decryption company” is a monopoly, not advice
The note tells you not to hire a decryption company. Part of that warning is self-serving. The authors want you talking to them, not to a relative, an insurer, or a real technician. They want a monopoly on the next click.
Part of it is still a useful caution in the wrong mouth. Mystery “one-click decrypt” apps from ads can damage files. Bulk rename tools can scramble names that a later trusted project might have used. Random recovery software can write over free space you still needed. The safe reading is narrower than the note wants. Do not take technical advice from the attacker. Do not run a paid unlocker from a search ad. Do not delete the .God8Damn copies “to start clean.”
Keep the locked files. Keep README.TXT. Those are evidence and, if a trusted decryptor ever appears, they are the raw material that tool would need. Destroying them because the note scared you is still doing the note’s work.
5. Hotmail and cyberfear are checkout counters
Plenty of lockers print a hidden site and nothing else. This note prints two ordinary-looking mailboxes. God8Damn@hotmail.com looks like a person. god8damn@cyberfear.com looks like a brand. The pair is a costume. One address is for people who distrust “cyber” domains. The other is for people who distrust free webmail. Both want the same first message.
Writing either inbox is how a locked folder becomes a negotiation. Negotiation is how a $ demand appears. Payment is how the next victim is funded. None of those steps restore a machine you can trust.
Do not write those inboxes “just to see the price.” A price is how the rest of the script starts. Once you are in the thread, the 12-hour line has something to attach to. Silence is not rude here. Silence is how you stay out of their queue.
If a later message arrives from a lookalike address, treat it the same way. A swapped letter, a different free host, or a “new recovery desk” is still the same aisle, or a copycat standing in the same doorway. Do not correct their checkout. Do not help them set a price the original note left blank on purpose. This page will not invent extra mailboxes. The two printed ones are enough.
6. Tox is a quieter aisle for the same sale
The note also points at a Tox download page and says the qTox ID is in the file. That path is for people who already decided email is too public. Tox chats are harder for a later investigator to collect than a mailbox. That is a feature for the crew, not for you.
A private messenger feels like a safer room. It is still their room. A qTox ID is not a case number at a real firm. It is a handle they published so you would install their preferred client and start typing. This page will not reprint or invent that ID. You do not need it. Anyone who later messages you with a “faster Tox” or a “new ID” is still selling the same aisle.
Do not type a decryption key, a password, or the bracketed file ID into qTox, into a Hotmail draft, or into a form a stranger sends back. Keys do not belong in a chat they control. Passwords do not belong there either. If you already opened the chat before you found this page, stop there. Do not send a “test file.” Do not pay a deposit to “hold the 50%.”
A test file is not harmless. Worthless to you is still a path name, a client line, or a header the crew did not have. An unlocked holiday photo, if they ever send one back, does not mean the accounting spreadsheet will return. It means someone on the other end can open a file they locked, which you already knew. Proof, if it ever comes, should come from a trusted decryptor project, not from God8Damn@hotmail.com.
7. Public reporting puts a name on the developer, not a key in your hand
Independent public reporting from Symantec, published on security.com, says GodDamn is not a brand-new family that appeared from nowhere. It is a rebrand of Beast. Beast was itself a rebrand of Monster, first seen in 2022. Symantec tracks the developer behind those families as Hyadina and documented GodDamn as first seen around May 21, 2026.
That lineage is useful for a responder. It is not a decryptor. A rebrand does not unlock last year’s files, and it does not unlock this year’s files. Monster, Beast, and GodDamn are names the operators can swap when a scanner starts catching the old one. The storefront on your disk is still README.TXT, two inboxes, and a 12-hour sale.
In the attack Symantec investigated, the operators used AnyDesk for remote access. They used NirSoft credential tools, the kind of password-recovery utilities that can pull saved logins out of browsers and other apps. They used a user-mode defense evasion tool named to look like a Symantec product. They used the PoisonX kernel driver, which carried a Microsoft Hardware Compatibility signature, to disable endpoint defenses before they deployed the locker.
Those details explain why a machine can look “fine” right up to the moment the names change. A signed driver can tell Windows it is welcome. A remote-access tool can sit in a folder that does not look like a malware drop. Credential tools can open the next share. This page is not asking you to hunt those components yourself. It is asking you not to treat a still-booting PC as proof the incident is small.
PoisonX, in that public reporting, is a kernel driver used to shut down endpoint defenses. A Microsoft Hardware Compatibility signature is why the system can treat it as a legitimate driver. That is a defense-evasion fact. It is not a reason to type a key into anything. It is not a reason to install a “driver cleaner” from a search ad. It is a reason to treat the machine as hostile until someone who is not in README.TXT has handled it.
AnyDesk is a real remote-access product. Criminals like it because a household already knows the name. A copy sitting in an odd folder, or a session you did not start, is part of the story Symantec told. It is not an invitation to keep the session open “so they can unlock the files.” Remote access is how the locker arrived. It is not how the files come back.
8. A second shop offers the same miracle
After a ransomware incident, search results and inbox ads fill up with companies that say they can decrypt GodDamn or “all .God8Damn files.” Some of those shops are ordinary overpriced consultants. Plenty are a second scam. They will quote the README pattern back to you. They will mention the bracketed ID so they sound close to the case. They will mention the 12-hour 50% line as if they already called the original crew. They will ask for a sample file, a remote-access session, or a deposit.
The second scam has a friendly website and a case manager. It may even open one junk file, because anyone who is in contact with the original criminals can borrow the same demo. Then the price rises, the chat dies, or the remote tool installs more malware. Quoting Hyadina, Beast, or PoisonX in their sales copy does not make them Symantec. Quoting God8Damn@hotmail.com does not make them the people who can undo the lock for free.
A real public decryptor, when one exists, shows up on an official project page that already existed before your incident. It does not need a deposit in cryptocurrency. It does not need God8Damn@hotmail.com. It does not need a qTox ID. If the pitch is “we can decrypt, pay us first,” you are still in the market the ransomware created.
The No More Ransom project puts the rule in plain language. Paying is not guaranteed to bring the files back, and you should not pay. That is the line on the official landing page run with Europol and the project partners. Use that page. Do not use README.TXT as a vendor.
9. Payment closes nothing
Paying is not a guarantee. That sentence is not a slogan. It is the recorded experience of victims across ransomware families. The people who send the note can take the money and disappear. They can send a tool that only unlocks a few files. They can come back later and lock the same machine again. A Hotmail thread and a Tox chat make that outcome easier, not harder. You cannot leave a review on a criminal inbox.
Even when a key arrives in some other campaign, it can fail on some file types, stop halfway, or demand a second payment. The same access that delivered GodDamn the first time can still be open. A payment teaches the operators that this victim pays. It does not close the hole that let them in. It does not give you a contract you can enforce. People who pay sometimes get a second bill for “deletion.”
If someone later tells you that 100% of paying victims got everything back, ask for a public source that is not the person selling the key. You will not get one that you should trust. There is no public free decryptor known for this family. Until a trusted project publishes one, treat any site that says “we already have the GodDamn key” as a second sales pitch.
The 50% window does not change that math. Half of a $ figure they invent in chat is still a $ figure they invent in chat. A discount is not a warranty.
What To Do If Your Files End in .God8Damn
Do not write God8Damn@hotmail.com. Do not write god8damn@cyberfear.com. Do not install qTox today because README.TXT told you to. Do not copy a qTox ID out of the note and paste it into a messenger. Do not type a key, a password, or the bracketed file ID into Hotmail, cyberfear, Tox, or a form a stranger sends back. Do not treat the 12-hour 50% line as a sale you have to catch. That discount is sales copy. The two inboxes and the Tox path are the storefront. If you already sent a message before you found this page, stop there. Do not send a test file. Do not pay a deposit to “hold the 50%.”

Run RKill.
After downloading, double-click the iExplore.exe icon to kill malicious processes. In most cases, downloaded files are saved to the Downloads folder. The program may take some time to search for and end various malware programs.

Install Malwarebytes

Quarantine the Detected Threats
When the scan is done, you’ll see a list of everything Malwarebytes found — malware, adware, and potentially unwanted programs. Click the “Quarantine” button to remove all of them at once.
Malwarebytes will now remove the malicious files and registry entries and move them safely into quarantine.
Restart Your Computer
Some threats can only be fully removed after a reboot. If Malwarebytes asks you to restart, click Yes. Once you’re logged back in, your PC is clean and you can continue with the next steps in this guide.

Select snapshot date.
Open ShadowExplorer and then from the top bar select the drive where the files that you want to save are located, then select from the snapshot available one previous to this infection.
Export the files that you want to recover.
Once you have found a copy of the original file or folder, right-click on it and the select “Export”. A window will prompt you where you want to save the file or folder.
Keep every .God8Damn name exactly as it is. Do not bulk-rename 1.jpg.[1CAAA6F2-5979CA69].God8Damn back to 1.jpg, or vacation.jpg.[1CAAA6F2-5979CA69].God8Damn back to vacation.jpg, or invoice-2026.pdf.[1CAAA6F2-5979CA69].God8Damn back to a normal PDF. Do not delete the bracketed ID because it looks ugly. Stripping the extra ending is not a repair. It can make a later trusted tool worse, not better. The original name is already sitting in front of .God8Damn. You do not need to edit it to know what you lost.
If your copy used the victim’s own name as the extension instead of .God8Damn, keep that ending too. Symantec’s public reporting says that happened in at least one investigated attack. The note is still the match. The inboxes are still the match.
Keep README.TXT with the locked files. Do not “clean up” every copy of the note. Do not invent a qTox ID if you are writing the incident down. If an ID is in the note, leave it in the note. Keep the two addresses as identifiers: God8Damn@hotmail.com and god8damn@cyberfear.com. Those artifacts are how you prove this was GodDamn and not a different locker that only sounds similar. They are evidence. They are not instructions you should carry out.
The 12-hour 50% line is not a reason to rush a payment. It is not a reason to skip a report. It is not a reason to stay on the infected machine so you can “make the window.” The clock is theirs. The files are already locked. Another 12 hours of panic will not change the bytes.
If a later message quotes your bracketed ID and offers “the real Tox,” that is still the same shop. If a later message skips Tox and asks for a $ figure over ordinary email, that is still the same shop, or a copycat standing in the same doorway. If someone claims they can already decrypt GodDamn files for a fee because they read the Hyadina name on security.com, they are selling a report, not a key. Do not answer. Do not complete their checkout. Do not help them fix the flyer.
If public reporting about AnyDesk or PoisonX matches what a responder later finds on the machine, treat that as context, not as a DIY project. Do not download a “PoisonX remover” from a search ad. Do not keep an AnyDesk session open so a stranger can “unlock” the share. Do not type recovery keys into a remote-access window. Those tools, in Symantec’s write-up, were how defenses got turned off and how operators stayed inside. They are not a help desk.
If Windows still offers to pick an app for the .God8Damn type, decline it. There is no player for that ending.
The Bottom Line
GodDamn ransomware is a locker with a readable filename and a README that wants a private chat. It keeps the old name, inserts a victim ID in brackets, and appends .God8Damn. In the sample format this page uses, 1.jpg becomes 1.jpg.[1CAAA6F2-5979CA69].God8Damn. vacation.jpg becomes vacation.jpg.[1CAAA6F2-5979CA69].God8Damn. invoice-2026.pdf becomes invoice-2026.pdf.[1CAAA6F2-5979CA69].God8Damn. taxes.xlsx becomes taxes.xlsx.[1CAAA6F2-5979CA69].God8Damn. family.mp4 becomes family.mp4.[1CAAA6F2-5979CA69].God8Damn. Treat that ID as a sample of the format, not as every victim’s code. The note is README.TXT.
The note does not print a ransom $ amount. It prints a hurry-up line: first 12 hours, the price is 50% of the real cost. It tells you not to hire a decryption company. It names God8Damn@hotmail.com and god8damn@cyberfear.com. It points at a Tox download page and a qTox ID that lives in the note. This page will not invent that ID. There is no public free decryptor known for this strain.
Symantec’s Threat Hunter Team, writing on security.com, says GodDamn is a rebrand of Beast, itself a rebrand of Monster from 2022, and tracks the developer as Hyadina. First seen around May 21, 2026. Operators have used AnyDesk, NirSoft credential tools, a fake Symantec-named user-mode tool, and the PoisonX kernel driver with a Microsoft Hardware Compatibility signature to disable endpoint defenses. Some attacks used the victim’s own name as the file ending instead of .God8Damn.
Do not pay. Do not write those inboxes. Do not install qTox for them. Do not type a key into a chat they own. Do not rename the pile in bulk. If you take one sentence with you, take this. A folder of names ending in .God8Damn, plus a README.TXT that sells a 12-hour 50% discount, is ransomware on the first sighting. Treat it that way before anyone in that inbox names a $ figure.

Here are 10 practical safety rules to help you avoid malware, online shopping scams, crypto scams, and other online fraud. Each tip includes a quick “if you already got hit” action.
Stop and verify before you click, log in, download, or pay.
Most scams win by creating urgency. Verify using a trusted method: type the website address yourself, use the official app, or call a known number (not the one in the message).
If you already clicked: close the page, do not enter passwords, and run a malware scan.
Keep your operating system, browser, and apps updated.
Updates patch security holes used by malware and malicious ads. Turn on automatic updates where possible.
If you saw a scary “update now” pop-up: close it and update only through your device settings or the official app store.
Use layered protection: antivirus plus an ad blocker.
Antivirus helps block malware. An ad blocker reduces scam redirects, phishing pages, and malvertising.
If your browser is acting weird: remove unknown extensions, reset the browser, then run a full scan.
Install apps, software, and extensions only from official sources.
Avoid cracked software, “keygens,” and random downloads. During installs, choose Custom/Advanced and decline bundled offers you do not recognize.
If you already installed something suspicious: uninstall it, restart, and scan again.
Treat links and attachments as untrusted by default.
Phishing often impersonates delivery services, banks, and popular brands. If it is unexpected, do not open attachments or log in through the message.
If you entered credentials: change the password immediately and enable 2FA.
Shop safely: research the store, then pay with protection.
Be cautious with brand-new stores, “closing sale” stories, and prices that make no sense. Prefer credit cards or PayPal for dispute options. Avoid wire transfers, gift cards, and crypto payments.
If you already paid: contact your card issuer or PayPal quickly to dispute the transaction.
Crypto rule: never pay a “fee” to withdraw or recover money.
Common patterns include fake profits, then “tax,” “gas,” or “verification” fees. Another is a “recovery agent” who demands upfront crypto.
If you already sent crypto: stop paying, save evidence (wallet addresses, TXIDs, chats), and report the scam to the platform used.
Secure your accounts with unique passwords and 2FA (start with email).
Use a password manager and unique passwords for every account. Enable 2FA using an authenticator app when possible.
If you suspect an account takeover: change passwords, sign out of all devices, and review recent logins and recovery settings.
Back up important files and keep one backup offline.
Backups protect you from ransomware and device failure. Keep at least one backup on an external drive that is not always connected.
If you suspect infection: do not connect backup drives until the system is clean.
If you think you are a victim: stop losses, document evidence, and escalate fast.
Move quickly. Speed matters for disputes, account recovery, and limiting damage.
Stop payments and contact: do not send more money or respond to the scammer.
Call your bank or card issuer: block transactions, replace the card if needed, and start a dispute or chargeback.
Secure your email first: change the email password, enable 2FA, and remove unfamiliar recovery options.
Secure other accounts: change passwords, enable 2FA, and log out of all sessions.
Scan your device: remove suspicious apps or extensions, then run a full malware scan.
Save evidence: screenshots, emails, order pages, tracking pages, wallet addresses, TXIDs, and chat logs.
Report it: to the payment provider, marketplace, social platform, exchange, or wallet service involved.
These rules are intentionally simple. Most online losses happen when decisions are rushed. Slow down, verify independently, and use payment methods and account controls that give you recourse.
