A fantastic site, and very helpful.
Shamefully, I only just stumbled onto this site after a friend came to me with her laptop in a next to unusable state.
I did some searching regarding her particular issue, and after checking out a couple of other sites, I fumbled upon this page -

First of all I read through the whole guide, then did a bit of research on all of the advice and products mentioned.
HitmanPro was the only product that received a slightly raised eyebrow.
With the help of this site, and a bit of my own experience thrown in, the machine is now humming along nicely back in it's rightful place
