Serious Discussion Web of Trust (WOT) – Still Installed, or Did You Finally Uninstall This Thing?

Web of Trust (WOT) extension – your verdict?

  • Still installed and actively using – actually useful now

  • Installed but disabled – kept for nostalgia / rare cases

  • Never reinstalled after the 2016–2017 privacy scandal

  • Using WOT + TrafficLight + VT – belt-and-suspenders gang

  • Replaced with URLhaus / PhishTank feeds in uBlock

  • Only have it on my parents’ PC – perfect for non-techies

  • What is WOT? Thought it died years ago

Hey MalwareTips community,

WOT (mywot.com) is somehow still alive after all these years of drama.

Quick 2025 status check:
  • Still has 5M+ users and a giant crowd-sourced database
  • Chrome/Firefox extensions updated for Manifest V3
  • Now shows “AI-powered” safety scores + phishing/malware warnings before you even visit
  • Added crypto-scam and fake-shop detection (actually decent this year)
  • Free version still works, Premium ($3/mo) removes ads and adds dark-web monitoring
  • But… the reputation system is still easily gamed (tons of 5-star reviews on obvious scam sites), false positives on legit forums/torrent sites, and the extension phones home quite a bit

The eternal arguments:
  • “It saved me from a dozen scam shops this year alone”
  • “It flags half the internet red because some angry user downvoted it in 2012”
  • “uBlock + VirusTotal link checker does the same without the drama”
  • “I only keep it for the green checkmark dopamine”

Drop your browser and whether you’re free or Premium!Did the 2025 updates finally make it trustworthy again, or is WOT forever on the “do not install” list for you?

Let the reputation-system roast begin!
