WOT (mywot.com) is somehow still alive after all these years of drama.
Quick 2025 status check:
- Still has 5M+ users and a giant crowd-sourced database
- Chrome/Firefox extensions updated for Manifest V3
- Now shows “AI-powered” safety scores + phishing/malware warnings before you even visit
- Added crypto-scam and fake-shop detection (actually decent this year)
- Free version still works, Premium ($3/mo) removes ads and adds dark-web monitoring
- But… the reputation system is still easily gamed (tons of 5-star reviews on obvious scam sites), false positives on legit forums/torrent sites, and the extension phones home quite a bit
The eternal arguments:
- “It saved me from a dozen scam shops this year alone”
- “It flags half the internet red because some angry user downvoted it in 2012”
- “uBlock + VirusTotal link checker does the same without the drama”
- “I only keep it for the green checkmark dopamine”
