Adguard 6.x Beta

Important: this is an alpha version, it is not intended for general use.
If you are not ready for bugs, errors and crashes of the program, better wait for the public beta.

What's new in this version:
1. A brand new program design.
2. New Filter editor - more convenient and easier to understand than the old one.
3. New Filtering log - more user-friendly.
4. Many "internal changes", we have rewritten the filtering engine itself.

What is not yet ready?
1. Stealth Mode is not working in this Alpha.
2. We are using the old versions of network drivers (the same as in the current Adguard release version).
3. We haven't completed the work on "Filtered apps". Soon it will be possible to add "Modern" applications and extend the list of filtered apps.
4. We haven't completed the work on "Filter editor". Soon it will be possible to create rules in the visual editor.
5. The older version of "Adguard Assistant" is being used.
6. We haven't completed the work on "Filtering log". In future it will be possible to create rules right from the Log.
7. At the moment there are only two localizations - English and Russian.
8. The settings migration from fifth version is not ready.

Important: During installation Adguard 6 will remove all current settings of the version 5.

Known issues
1. Memory leaks. Not all the memory can be freed up after intensive use of UI.
2. Unstable run of Filter editor. Filters can get out of sync.
3. Hangs and crashes sometimes happen.

Saw a good tip on the Adguard Tech Forums yesterday and have been trying it out re: Steam Web Browsing and Adguard.

"If you want to filter the Steam web browser all you need is to add steamwebhelper.exe which is located in:
Steam>bin>steamwebhelper.exe

steamwebhelper is a webkit based browser for Steam and is strictly used for websites not for any gaming related information.
The Steam Client Bootstrapper (steam.exe) is responsible for gaming related stuff, IE p2p games, steam cloud, steamworks etc.

For each web browser/tab you have opened via steam will run a separate steamwebhelper.exe process, much like how chrome does."

Boo Berry pointed out that "it *could* potentially trip the Valve Anti-Cheat DRM", but as quoted above, it's only monitoring the steamwebhelper.exe. I am trying this and it seems to work so far. Then again what is the point, I almost never use the steam web browser.

This filter blocks irritating elements on webpages, including cookie notices, third-party widgets and in-page popups (Doesn’t include social media widgets and buttons, to block them you can still use Social media filter separately). It was inspired by Fanboy Annoyances List, but doesn’t duplicate it, so you can use them both together.

Microsoft Edge
Edge extension has finally arrived! We still cannot publish it on Windows Store as this feature just is not available for common developers. So, to install Adguard you should make some changes to your Edge configuration.

Minimum supported Edge version is 38.14352.1002.0.
This means that you should be on Insider Preview Windows version.

1. Go to "about:flags" page.
2. Turn on "Enable extension developer features".
3. Unpack edge extension archive.
4. Open Edge settings -> Extensions.
5. Click "Load extension" button and choose unpacked extension folder.
6. That's it, I hope you'll like it!

Known issues:

1. Integration mode is not working yet.
2. "Export" function crashes Edge.
3. Adguard browser menu looks bad as we cannot control menu container size and shape.

Hello everyone!

This is the first beta version after the release of v.6.0.226. It covers all its shortcomings and adds several new features, that mostly concern Stealth Mode. We will describe them below.

Stealth Mode
[Added] "Self destructing cookies" option in Stealth Mode #678

Previously Stealth Mode module provided only the option to completely block third-party cookies. Now you will not only have an ability to differ first- and third-party cookies, but also the ability to set the exact time which cookies will be kept alive for. Important note: you can still block cookies alltogether, just set the keep-alive time to '0'.

Normally browsers may detect your location and use this information to prioritize specific search results or make other various suggestions based on it. With browser location API blocked this will be impossible.
Blocking browser notifications API feature works somewhat similar, but rather prevents browser from showing things like news or social media frames that pop-up in the corner of your browser.
