We're excited to share that AdGuard for Safari just got a huge rework and is getting ready to re-emerge as AdGuard Mini for Mac. It’s not just a fancy name change, it’s a significant level-up for ad blocking in Safari.

Why “Mini”?

The core power of our ad-blocking lineup are apps that offer system-wide filtering: AdGuard for Mac, AdGuard for Android, and others. At the same time, we also have products that use simpler technical approaches, and some users prefer them to full-fledged ones. This release brought an opportunity to clarify this difference on the product name level. Basically, while AdGuard Ad Blocker means apps with system-wide functionality, browser extension-based ad blockers will be now called AdGuard Mini. Thus, AdGuard for Safari becomes AdGuard Mini for Mac.

What’s new inside

While keeping everything we love about AdGuard for Safari — blocking banners, popups, autoplay videos, trackers and more — AdGuard Mini introduces new Pro features: AdGuard Extra and Real-time filter updates. These features make filtering in Safari stronger than ever — see below for details.

On top of that, this update brings overall improvements:
  • Filter updates are now up to 5 times faster — thanks to updated SafariConverterLib, which refines the way filtering rules are converted in Safari
  • The UI framework transitioned from Electron to Sciter, enabling future improvements
  • Completely refreshed UI and UX for easier control

Thanks for sharing this update, Gandalf_The_Grey! AdGuard has been a solid choice for ad-blocking, and it's great to see them refining their Safari extension into something more streamlined. The "Mini" branding makes sense to differentiate it from their full system-wide apps—should help avoid confusion for users.

The real-time filter updates and faster conversions sound like a big win for Safari users on Mac. I've been meaning to test out the beta; anyone here already tried it and noticed a difference in performance?

If anyone's interested in similar tools, we have threads on ad-blockers in the Security Software section—feel free to chime in!

This is a good update. From my testing AdGuard on macOS has been blacklisted. YouTube will immediately show me adblock warning. If I disable and only use uBO or Wipr 2, I'm fine. I think they are able to detect that you specifically use Adguard based on patterns in the blocking and just kick you out.
