This is a thread that I have been reluctant to post on as there can be no other subject that will fuel a higher emotionally charged reaction than this, and rightfully so.
I post now because I feel that
@LukeNukesEm is making logical points that are being unfairly overlooked.
Wearing an emotional hat can often make one aware of a problem, but that problem can only be solved by swapping that emotional hat for a logical one.
Yes,these crimes against children make me extremely angry.....Do we not want to attempt to prevent these crimes from happening in the first place,or would we rather just concentrate on finding the most painful punishment for those that commit them?
There are still some poorly educated parts of the World who believe that what or whom we are sexually attracted to is a matter of choice. This has been proven time and time again to be incorrect.
Lets say for example that a teenager finds that they are attracted to those younger than themselves.Where would that person go to seek help?.. Who could they confide in?
In a World where the admittance of this attraction is itself unacceptable the person in question has an increased likelihood of going on to commit such crimes...in this sense society is perpetuating the very crimes that it wishes to eradicate.
IMO to refute the "mental illness" angle and imply that crimes against Children are all deliberately calculated choices is illogical, and shows a poor understanding of both logic and psychology.
