Ads playing in background

Along with the ads and the restarting, I was having issues with my internet searches being redirected (the first thing I clicked on in the search would go to a completely different website). I followed some instructions to fix it (in Chrome, delete any unknown extensions), and the fix works until I close Chrome and open it again. When I do that, the extension that I deleted before is back (tools -> extensions) and searches are again redirected until I delete the extension again. Can that be fixed?

I went through the steps, closed Chrome, and opened it again. I tried a Google search, clicked on the first link, and it went to some random website like before. I checked the extensions, and all were disabled except the one that I keep having to delete. When I deleted that extension, search went back to normal. But that extension reappears every time I open Chrome.
