AdwCleaner freezes

Hi,
AdwCleaner v. 3.0.2.3
When it gets to checking Browsers the application stops, though my AntiVirus and Firewall were disabled.
Unable finish cleaning unlike the first time I've ever used it.
Posting here because all other related AdwCleaner discussions are closed for now.
How can I get it to work?

Please download zoek.zip or zoek.rar by smeenk (

) from here or here and save it to your Desktop.
Unpack the archive...

• Close any open browsers
• Temporarily disable your AntiVirus program. (If necessary)
  If you are unsure how to do this please read this or this Instruction.
  
• Double click on zoek.exe to run the tool .
  Please wait while the tool does not start...
  
• Copy the text present inside the code box below and paste it into the large window in the zoek tool:

My AV (avast! 2014) detected the zoek.zip or the zoek.exe (also available at the download site) as threats (Win32:Malware-gen), so I didn't proceed.

That is wrong detection, please disable Avast and try again.

I've removed already problematic Google Chrome then running AdwCleaner went without a hitch.

What about Zoek?

Do I still have to run it when my original problem was the AdwCleaner freezing that was fixed? What the zoek suppose to do anyway that was not done by the Adw?

Adwcleaner isn't able to remove all, so that's is why Zoek is needed. But if you don't want to run Zoek, it is ok.

I've followed all the suggestions of http://malwaretips.com/blogs/malware-removal-guide-for-windows/ that's when I experienced the "hiccup" with Adw..., which was fixed. So I fairly confident the cleaning was thorough then, hence the reason not using the Zoek.
