First of all, welcome to MT :)

Second,
windows8smartscreen.jpg

There is "more info", click it and you will see more options where you can click "Run the app" .
But just if you are sure that it has been downloaded from reliable source.

Have a nice day ;)

UAC, User Activated Control, notifies you when changes are going to be made to your computer system.
  1. Go to search.
  2. Enter UAC
  3. <click> "Change UAC Settings"
  4. Select what Exterminator20 wisely advised by >>>"..enable(-ing) UAC to at least default if it isn't already."
Add-ons to your Firefox browser enhance your browsing experience.;) Too many can slow it down.:(

Choose the position next the top that reads: "Notify me only when apps try to make changes to my computer (default)". Choose, at least this setting. When alerted of changes about to take place, the screen will dim. Remember, this is advance warning, and not an inconvenience!;)

is there a good free anti virus program?

cgd, I've heard mostly good things about Qihoo 360 Total Security although I've not tried it; and the three main reasons for this are:
  1. I use Windows Defender
  2. It keeps my 8.1 system light.
  3. Windows Defender with Windows Firewall in 8/8.1 provide good protection, and (according to both Sith:cool: & Jedi:D Masters of the MT Galaxy)o_O all the way down to the kernel level).
  • OK, here are more facts:
  1. Windows "Native" AV is already installed.
  2. It's free.:):)
  3. I'm using now too.:p:D
