RE: Alice

I see that you use backups as your real time, no problem , but is there a reason why you do this?

Have you considered the list below?
  • CO-MO-DO Internet Security
  • Avast Free + CO-MO-DO Firewall

Also a few more things that you can add to Firefox.

Firefox Addons
  • Ghostery
  • WOT

Hope that this helps :)

RE: Alice

Using Timefreeze for experimentation is really good so +1 for that also common sense will be your real time protection. :)

RE: Alice

Time Freeze is Virtualization like shadow defender or Returnil so its not a
backup , and as a replacement for real time protection its top notch as it
stops almost everything real time protection such a anti virus can only stop what it can fined,
and Acronis and the On-demand scanners are just in case ,
Ghostery I have not used and will take a look at it,

+ common sense is the best malware stopper ever lol

Ahh right. Well apart from looking into Ghostery, you are set :)

RE: Alice

Ahhhhh the old "common sense" debate :D

As i used to say common sense is based on knowledge...How common sense can be useful when you don't have any clue or knowledge of the threat (especially Drive-by attacks from your favorite sites, etc...).

Common Sense don't protect against any malware, it just help you to avoid the classic vectors, that is a huge difference.

Back to your config, Comodo Firewall scan nothing, so you should put it separately from the On-Demand scanner section, you may confuse the beginners that may watch your config. Btw, is your modem watch your outbound connections? if not you should let Comodo FW activated all time.

Except that for the rest you are ok.

My opinion is that you would be better off without WOT and use some other link scanner.
@umbrapolis drive-by attacks from my favourite sites? < 0.00000000001%.

Yes, low probability but not zero probability, also don't forget stolen/hacked certificates, etc... one day you may be hit by these kind of attacks.

Do you have autorun disabled?
Sounds like paranoia. :D
MS released an update back in 2009 to change the ways Auto-Run works on Windows, so assuming the OS is updated I don't think it's much of a worry. Even though it wasn't completely disabled.

Hi all
Outbound connections are monitored
autorun disabled by me
OS is updated always
All outbound connections are monitored
+ I also don't think WOT is any advantage
stolen/hacked certificates, etc don't worry me as
I reboot and every thing is gone same for drive-by attacks

and If everything fails its all backed up with Acronis
and I know Acronis has a certain amount of bloat
but Its not let me down yet lol

So you are all good. Acronis is a well made product, if only it was free ^^

Weird but I have to disable it every time myself. Fully updated OS's.

Modified, but not disabled. You can read the changes here.

I have been a user of Acronis for awhile but I swapped to Free alternative for 2 reasons: As a gamer I do not need a scheduled backup task. Also even without having a scheduled task, it still runs processes.

Also, it doesn't hurt having an AV as a real time protection.

That is just my opinion
