The new generation of Ryzen Threadripper is based on AMD's 12nm Zen+ x86 processor architecture. AMD claims the 32-core model provides up to 53% faster multi-thread performance than Intel's Core i9-7980XE chip and works with existing AMD X399 chipset motherboards. Additionally, AMD's second-generation Ryzen Threadripper CPUs also include the 24, 16, and 12-core variants called the 2970WX, 2950X, and 2920X, respectively. The new motherboards designed by ASRock, ASUS, Gigabyte, and MSI already support the new processors.
