Since we are talking about backup software I would never want to find out if a restore is still possible after a license runs out I would: Buy the software if I like it or just use a free software like macrium reflect free. I'm not in the mood to hunt for yearly licenses for backups.

You can still restore backups when the license expires, you just won't be able to use any of the Pro features. For many users, I'm sure that the free version is all they need anyway.
