Microsoft is working to bring back app update notifications in Windows 10 Mobile in a move which not only that makes sense in a modern operating system, but also lets users know exactly what apps receive notifications and when this happens.
As MSPU notes, some of the “tweaks” that Microsoft made to Windows 10 Mobile reduced the amount of information that users get about apps and the updates they receive, so for instance, nobody can tell for sure when a specific app was last updated (unless they turn to some third-party services). This is because the company removed such information from the store following a decision that nobody understands.
Hardcore Windows Phone fans have been very vocal about these changes and posts on the main communications channels, including reddit and the Feedback app, emphasized that Microsoft made the wrong decision when removing these features.
But Microsoft is reportedly trying to change this in internal Windows 10 Mobile builds by bringing back some app update information, and it all starts with notifications displayed on devices receiving these updates.
Now every time an application is updated through the store, users are provided with a toast and Action Center notification letting them know this happened.
Coming in the Anniversary Update
This feature should be released to insiders in the upcoming builds and be available for retail users in the Anniversary Update coming in the summer.
Without a doubt, Microsoft’s working to fix most of the annoyances of the platform with the Anniversary Update, so these improvements can only improve the experience that users get on Windows 10 Mobile. As far as apps are concerned, the company is working to take care of that too and the universal app concept is running at full speed, but it remains to be seen if this can tackle the over-discussed lack of apps.
The Anniversary Update is projected to debut in July for both PCs and smartphones, so expect many more such improvements to be released and to leak in the coming weeks and months. A new build of Windows 10 Mobile is also likely to see daylight the next week.
