There are extensions to discard tabs, but I typed: Chrome://flags, then scroll down to:

Automatic tab discarding Mac, Windows
If enabled, tabs get automatically discarded from memory when the system memory is low. Discarded tabs are still visible on the tab strip and get reloaded when clicked on. Info about discarded tabs can be found at chrome://discards.

So I Enabled it.

Two links for you:

Tab Discarding in Chrome: A Memory-Saving Experiment: Tab Discarding in Chrome: A Memory-Saving Experiment | Web | Google Developers
Reducing Chrome's memory footprint is one of the team's top priorities this year. We've already seen up to a 45% reduction in GMail's memory usage thanks to improvements in V8's garbage collection process but we're really just getting started. One of our next experiments in memory use is aimed at tab hoarders (like myself). It's called Tab Discarding
Tab discarding is available as an experiment in Chrome 46 and above.

Automatic Tab Discarding - a feature being identified as a fault or bug

About "Automatic Tab Discarding" in Google Chrome :

For every tab you have open our renderer process usually takes around 50MB per tab, even though most people use just a single tab at a time. If you’ve got 10 tabs open there’s at least 450MB of memory being spent just to keep your background tab state. This can get a little unwieldy over time.
Chrome's memory management triggers tab discard automatically that suspends background tabs, when physical memory is low. This feature is available as an experiment in Chrome 46 and above. You can monitor chrome's Memory usage from the Settings>More Tools>Task Manager or Type chrome:memory in the search box.

See the screenshot : Chrome with 6 tabs Total Memory Consumption :1,143,346k ( Approx: 1.5GB ).

But Automatic Tab Discarding for some users doesn't save memory, but the contrary... what do you think about this topic? Is't good idea?...
