Thanks for posting. Any comments? Avast free missed the Advanced+ certification because of false-positives . It had 3rd best detection in the test, though.

If it strange that Avira gets so good detection and when people on youtube are testing is not doing that great so people expect.

Well on youtube usually the test was conducted to be a zero day thus Avira missed it.

Probably because they do not use samples such as: hoaxes, jokes, virus simulators, cracks, keygens, key loggers, damaged files or disputed files. (see methodology) and because they accept certain changes to default settings, if the vendor asks. Avira usually asks heuristics on high and detection of packed executables disabled. Avast asked their heuristicts to be set on high in this test (see report).

Symantec has always done better in the Retrospective tests. Thumbs up for Avast but high detection rate doesn't really mean anything when your FP rate is very high. In the weeks I was using Avast I never had a FP.

Here are some of the results :

G DATA – 99.8%
Trustport – 99.2%
Avast! – 98.4%
Panda, F-Secure – 98.1%
Qihoo – 97.9%
BitDefender – 97.6%
Avira, ESET – 97.5%
eScan – 97.4%
Kaspersky – 97%
McAfee – 96.8%
Microsoft – 95.8%
Symantec – 95.5%
********
AVG – 91.4%

K7 – 84.4%

Avast has some good signatures..I was surprised to see Symantec getting such a low detection rate : 95,5.....

This is an on demand test. Not a real time test which is the retrospective test. The definitions where frozen for months and since Norton relies on the cloud is why it scored lower.

Why are their components all in the cloud? They should at least have an offline SONAR.
The multiple engine Antivirus programs should not be included in this test.

Sonar is in the cloud but ti still uses heuristics. Wait till thr retro test is done and Symantec will be on top. Look at the past tests.

Why do they need SONAR to be In the Cloud?
SONAR will likely take the cake with the retrospective test, though Avast may now start to get high on the list.
