Free Avast is more than enough, it has more protection module than other free antiviruses.
Avast Free is OK. Paid version will not give you more things. Just tune-up utilities, backup options etc.
You can get those features from utilities which are free of charge.
Thanks I did n't know it before ...;)

As @yigido pointed out above it is not worth paying for when the paid features can be obtained in other free programs.Many of which are better than those that come with the paid version.
If you ever consider paying for an Antivirus or Security Suite program use the trial version first and see how it performs on your system.Personally there are a a few paid AV's,and nothing against Avast,that are better.
However for a free AV,Avast is one of the best and the price is hard to beat.You can also combine it with Sandboxie free and common sense and you will be protected well.
Avast Free + Windows Firewall+Sandboxie = A solid config :)

When you say free activation then clearly it will pertains of Avast Free which holds already a one year license for free by registering it. ;)
