Personal opinion from cdnsempre. Nothing more nothing less. However he/she is not referring to the quality of the signatures. avast! has a slower boot time than Comodo for example, so the RAM usage is irrelevant here. On a side note, since you refer to RAM, Comodo uses less than 10Mb on my system while avast uses around the same. Each system will react differently.
