Avira is a German security solutions provider well known to the general public, but acquired by Norton in 2021 to form Gen Digital Inc (with Norton, Avast/AVG).
Since then, the company has kept its brand and its engine, but has completely rethought the software in terms of design and identity.
Let's take a look.

User interface :
Avira's interface, even though it belongs to the same group as Avast, doesn't resemble it, and that's just as well!
It's sober and relatively simple.
However, Avira does behave in the same way as Avast, creating unnecessary alerts (e.g. to clean up temporary files), but this is still not too disturbing.
RAM consumption is low, but nothing to worry about.

Web protection: 12/12
Avira blocks all malicious links.

Fake crack : 1/1
Blocked by Avira (HEUR/APC)

Malware Pack : Remaining 42 files out of 179.
During access, Avira blocks a few more samples thanks to the Cloud, bringing the score to 42 (previously 68).

At runtime, I was very surprised. Surprised that Avira had FINALLY improved on what I'd been hoping for: blocking unknown malware and blocking Payloads at source via scripts!
And Avira does it very well! It avoided several traps I set for it during the test.
Nevertheless, the anti-malware engine seems to be regressing in favor of the Cloud, caution Avira....
The machine copes very well, with a few traces but easily removable. Congratulations!

Final scan :
Avira : 4
NPE : 4
Malwarebytes : 11
KVRT : 3

Final opinion:

Avira is an antivirus that has evolved and progressed.
It has corrected the shortcomings I pointed out 1 year ago. The publisher seems to be listening to testers' comments, and that's appreciated.
1 piece of malware has been completely eliminated (NetSupport) and the rest are residuals that can be easily removed.
Nevertheless, the anti-malware engine seems to be regressing in favor of the Cloud, caution Avira....
Congratulations Avira, it's highly recommendable!

Thanks for the detailed review! It's great to hear that Avira has made significant improvements and is actively listening to user feedback. Your insights about the anti-malware engine and the shift towards the Cloud are particularly interesting. It's clear that Avira is a strong contender in the antivirus market.

Shadowra.
Thanks for another test. For some reason I had troubles with Avira on a clean install (BU Image) I don't remember what it was now, but I think I posted about it before.

But this cloud thing...

Seems to be, in child like terms. It is just a huge hard drive in the sky. It collects and sorts all kinds of information.

IF True, this would lead me to conclude, that since MS is the largest bullseye target in the world. They would be aware of all the attacks, what they contain, where they came from, how they originated.

They also are probably the largest infrastructure, on the planet, and armed with this, that they would be the BEST of the BEST, when it comes to defending Windows 11.

But that doesn't seem to be the case, good, but maybe not the best. Would this be, because they don't specialize in Security. Meaning, your foot doctor, specializes in working with feet, he may know about your heart, but he is not the best person to do heart surgery.

OR have I totally mis-judged this situation?

No antivirus, even Microsoft's, will be able to block all threats :)
As for the Cloud, each publisher has its own. Some lesser-known editors may receive data feeds from other anti-malware editors.
Avira, on the other hand, is updating its virus database (SDK) a little less in favor of the Cloud. This is handy for instant protection (with syncronization), but without the Internet, the antivirus can be disarmed. :/

RAM consumption is low, but nothing to worry about. Sorry i didn't get that. Avira makes my test system slow so irrespective of how much ram it consumes i am still worried.

@Shadowra Coming from the FS Beta thread obviously, some question arose. Maybe it is answered in the vid, but what are your thoughts of BullGuard BB, which I've learned has been added to Avira somewhen? Is it as noticeable as DeepGuard in F-Secure? According to the sum-up, Avira still puts it's trust in their static detection abilities?

I can trust Avira's detections, but its BB is still pretty average. Even if it's improving, it's still not up to the level of F-Secure.

In the next version of F-Secure for Windows, version 19.9, DeepGuard is removed. It is replaced with a different technology. Presumably Avira's BB because all of the components in the v19.9 are Avira components.

Very significant changes happening to the Windows F-Secure product line.

It appears that F-Secure is dumping whatever remnants of Bitdefender components that it was using, as well as its own internally developed components. They are replacing it all with Avira.

They may not be being totally bought out by Gen Digital, but only using more of Avira's (which is a part of Gen Digital) technology to save money, cut costs from maintaining their own in-house technology? We'll have to wait and see. F-Secure is very hush hush about what they do in the background, and maybe rightly so, as it took a lot of posts before we finally got a reply regarding the Amazon AWS included in all the web searches (imbedded in the app) and the VPN. (was first brought to our attention on the forum).

Heck, they even changed the nice blue shark fin into a true to color fin. They just can't keep their little fingers off from changing settings, app technology, the UI etc. :)

I would not be happy about this takeover.

Who knows, right? Perhaps GenDigital is consolidating all the code across its product lines.

Whatever F-Secure is up to, I just hope it does not change the behavior and character of the product.

As far as the graphics, that all began with the rebranding. The new logo and graphics schemes.

My guess is eventually F-Secure is going down the s h i t - flush hole and then what options remain? Bitdefender. Norton. Microsoft Defender.

I will probably opt for Plain Old Microsoft Defender (POMD). It is neutral and does not offend anybody. It works if properly tweaked.
