Hello!
What do you have to say on this battle?
Which AV can protect a user better in real world (detection & removal, both known and zero day malware as a result), Eset Nod32 7 or Avast free with moderate hardened mode enabled & pup enabled?

yes I do think that eset will protect you better even if you use hard mode but it doesn't worth the little diffrent the money. i use 360 IS it is the lightest AV that I ever seen when disabling BD engine

Detection = ESET
Removal = ESET
Detection of 0 day = ESET (respond faster with new signatures than most of other vendors)
Prevention of 0 day = Avast Hardened Mode (However if you tweak hips settings Eset is better)

Thanks! ..overall level of protection for the user resulting from all this?
No tweak for esets hips as I ve done it and it can be annoying even after learning mode.

Overall Eset will serve you well. If you have the money buy it.
  • It is light on the system and it has the best signatures you find nowadays.
  • A very positive think is that even if Eset will not detect a 0 day threat they will make a signature in the next update ( They are very fast on this)
  • Eset webfilter is very good
  • Also important: PUP detection (Eset simply rules here)
  • Support team: Very good (They also have customer support in Greece & Cyprus).
And i will finish saying: Better use a product that can detect virus at first place, than to play ''Russian Roulette'' with a behavior blocker and malware.

@MikeV you really have a point in your last sentence. What do you exactly mean by saying "they will make a signature in the nezt update"? Do they effectively analyse unknown files from users PCs in such a good degree that detection of an undetected threat will come shortly after the infection?

Ok. Now a days people keep mentioning about Avast's Hardened mode. But problem is most of them checking unknown malware with hardened mode enabled and getting Avast pop-up.

There is a reason why hardened mode is disabled by default.

It's nothing but sort of Default Denial. If you run 100 new legitimate programs most of them will be detected by Avast hardened mode. So whats the point of it? When you are installing a new program and you got that pop-up saying it's harmful, you will add that to exclusion anyway. If default denial is good then Comodo is the no. 1 Internet security.
