Poor Avast, 0 votes... :D
I already voted too, and I kinda like Avast Free, but IMO Eset is better than paid Avast. It has great signatures (which are updated very often, min. 4 times per day) and PUP detection. Web protection is good too.
Ikr Avast Got NONE, i used avast and i like it! i never tried ESET but according to votes i will give it a shot.

ESET IS hands down from detection wise up to minimalist configuration.

Avast IS is fine and acceptable; likely you need to tweak some settings and let the Hardening Mode and use of sandbox do the rest. ;)

ESET Version 10 is not officially released yet.
I have used both and both require some tweaking to maximize protection.
Out of the box I would say ESET.
Not much of a noticeable system impact with either one but if I had to pick one based on that alone it would be ESET.
Both offer good protection.
Avast does have a an excellent free AV version (a consideration for some)
I favor both of these products(and Avast free)for my family & friends who are average users.
As for the poll I would have to say ESET

I never used ESET, so I can't tell about it, but I used to have Avast for many years. I used to like Avast because it was low in memory usage (just two processes) and also because it is fully customisable in terms of its settings (you could adjust most settings as it suits you). However it started to become bloated with secondary futures (like software updater, performance scan, offers to buy VPN etc.) and I started to realise it was actually slowing down my system quite a lot (like surges in CPU usage, slow to open files/programs) so I couldnt stand using it anymore. So, I would probably give a chance to Eset.

ESET is what not it used to be, its slow like majority of the AVs. Avast free with windows firewalls is a good combo. Throw in some on demand scanners, you are good to go.
