I actually found myself going to the BD website to check on the AV Plus prices last night, as I agree with you regarding some of these over bloated AV's including all the panels that aren't enabled but can be, with their free version(s). But, I still like the features and accessibility of a 3rd party AV better than Microsoft.I continually see evidence of praiseworthy protection from Avast, but I would have more appreciation for Avast (and the new Norton) if their own multibillion-dollar company didn't push so hard to be a loud "everything" app. This is one of the continuing appeals of Microsoft Defender: it's simple and unobtrusive, which is the reason it's still one of a small selection of antiviruses I'd consider using today, also taking into account the broadly satisfactory detection rate.
A reliable antivirus is only one layer of defense to keep in mind.
