Yes it works even now. I just tried 2 days back. You have to install the registry before installing Avira, then during installation you can skip the toolbar.

I did it like you say and no luck.

Are you installing the right registry 32/64 bit as per your system ? I'm sure this works, you may be making some mistake somewhere.

I download the offline installer from softpedia. Don't know if that makes any difference.

Yes! 64 bit system - 64 bit key. Maybe any mistake that I cannot even think of? Don't know.
