is Avira "free forever" -- I see 3 paid versions, and free version seems to have more "stuff" than some of paid versions. Does free use Avira cloud & can you turn off vpn, speed booster & identity protection? I'm just seeing new AV-C, and Avira is at or near top, a little better than MS Defender, but not clear at first glance the settings used in Defender...

Yes it is free forever, but to be honest the "stuff" it has is bloat not features.
Does free use Avira cloud
Yes it uses the cloud and the detections starts with "HEUR/" for example "HEUR/APC".
can you turn off vpn, speed booster & identity protection?
You can turn them off in "Autoruns" or similar startup managers, it will not start with the system, but it will still be there in the GUI when you open Avira.

Yes, it has a good results recently, and I think both Avira and MS Defender good as free solutions these days, @Shadowra please correct if I'm wrong.

One of the issues I did have with Avira is their browser extension (I was using Pro), that was almost impossible to uninstall (as well as with another member here). I would rather use TrafficLight or a different browser extension than Avira's.

Yes I have seen the same thing with 2 Avira browser extensions. Months later after uninstall, I do something with pc or browser and suddenly Avira ext appears again... but I have been able to remove it from browser at that point.

This is not just related to Avira alone, I have this issue when I installed Malwarebytes too, if you choose to install their browser guard extension during the installation process, you will get the same issue if you tried to remove it.
