Most applications have no problem running on Windows 8, but in some cases the changes to the operating system’s platform are too much and conflicts may arise. Such is the case with Avira, as a post on their support page notes that their consumer products are not yet compatible with Windows 8.

The company announces that they’re working with Microsoft in order to achieve the compatibility between the two products, which will be complete in the first quarter of 2013.

At the moment, trying to install an Avira product on Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012 will result in either a Windows BSOD or crashing of the Avira software.

Disappointing to hear. :-/ Windows 8 Avira users have to wait ~2 months before "compatibility".

Probably this is what he is referring to, but even so, it is dated December 2012.
