Serious Discussion Because Avast is an EU Company, Can I Expect Its Privacy Policy to Be Better Than Microsoft Defender?

Normally, I'd say pick any EU company because of strong privacy laws and that's still the case. But I'd personally stay away from Avast as they were fined two times for misuse of user's data.
Avast is clearly not an excellent choice as they have been accused of spying and reselling personal information with their subsidiaries Jumpshot....
Avast the word privacy, I would use Microsoft Defender.
Avast is the worst when it comes to users' data and privacy.
Is this controllable from the settings to disable it, or I can't trust Avast at all?

I stopped using Avast way before Jumpshot incident. I remember it having an option to disable data collection, but since it's Avast, I doubt it does anything.

It was once my favorite antivirus software, but lost the status went they introduced ads, limited features and introduced bunch of unnecessary paid modules.
