This is why verifying checksum is important to avoid the man-in-the-middle attacks, some privacy oriented OS like Tails make extensive use of signed openPGP keyring and web of trust to make sure you only get the legit ISO without any added modifications. I hope the cyber-forensics track down the responsible.
