UPDATE: Sync 2.0 Alpha Testers - See Post #3

BitTorrent: Help us Build Sync, A Call for Alpha Testers - Sign Up

We’re launching a Community Testers program to help build future versions of BitTorrent Sync.

Sync began as an experiment in re-thinking the way we manage our files. Working with our community, we built a strong alternative to the public cloud, providing all the benefits, without the limitations. It’s designed to be fast and secure, with no caps on usage. Millions of users and several iterations later, we’re still working hard to make it even better.

This summer, we’ll be releasing an update that will enhance the overall user experience – with an interface and feature set that makes sharing files with others much easier. It doesn’t matter if you’re an early technology adopter or an everyday dabbler, the product will just work.

So today, we’re putting out a call for alpha testers to give early builds a spin and help us refine the product. It’s a new approach to testing for the Sync team, and the goal is to hear more from our users directly and ensure that we’re meeting your needs.

Some features may be experimental and won’t make the final cut, but key components we’re planning for the final release include:
  • A re-designed user interface
  • Sharing with others by sending clickable links
  • Share from the Finder and Windows Explorer
  • Overall performance enhancements
Thanks to those who participate in this program and to everyone who’s active on our forum.

Happy Syncing,
-Erik Pounds

BitTorrent Sync 2.0 Alpha coming soon - new features coming and price comparison

"A year and a half ago, BitTorrent Sync started with a simple idea: give people the ability to sync large files fast by skipping the cloud. We’ve been humbled by the enthusiastic reception during the Alpha and Beta phases, and we’re now getting ready to take the Beta tag off and introduce a premium edition of Sync to the market. Before that happens, we want to keep you informed on what to expect next.

The capabilities of Sync have allowed it to be used in many, and very different, ways. From distributing files across remote servers to sharing vacation photos, Sync has shined for many users (you don’t see that from the cloud). As we evolve the technology and the product, it has become apparent that to satisfy the needs of Sync’s most popular use cases, different products are required. These most popular use cases are:
  • Sync 2.0 - Sync and Share - Syncing files between your devices and sharing them with others.
  • File Replication - Replicating files across devices controlled in an IT environment.
  • Large Mobile File Send - Sending large files to another person.
Let me talk you through the evolution of Sync and the three products we are working on within the Sync family..

Sync 2.0 Alpha Test Build Now Available
We’ve released an Alpha build of Sync 2.0, for those interested in joining our community testing program.

In early 2015, we’re taking the beta tag off Sync and releasing version 2.0. As detailed on the blog and in the forum, Sync 2.0 will include a free edition (with the goal of being even better than the Sync 1.4 Beta), as well as a Pro edition with features catering to individuals and business workgroup environments.

Sync 2.0 will be a cost effective means to quickly and privately sync and share files of any size, all by bypassing the cloud.

Today, we’ve made available an Alpha build of Sync 2.0 that will allow our community testers to try out some of the free and pro features. We want as much feedback as possible, which will allow us to make Sync as good as possible for our users.

Please visit the forum to get the Sync 2.0 Alpha, and start testing. We’re looking forward to working with you all. Happy syncing.
